Lay it low, lay it low Lay it low hold your breath and count it slow Close your eyes Close your eyes Close your eyes Never see more than you can survive when the memories fade away and now you're misty the mystics come to play when your lips ain't speaking plain not in your heart, nose or days.
And in the woods with a story to tell Promise me I won't be hearing that bell laying low Leg and low Lay and low hold your breath and count it slow Close your eyes Close your eyes Close your eyes Never see more than you.
Welcome back to Husk Neighbors. We missed you.
This Goblets and Gays production is a monster of the week. Actual play laid before you all for your enjoyment and unease. But our unease has been minimized to the use of safety tools in prior discussion. Our content warnings will be available to consult at any time in the chat. These include body horror, eldritch horror, folk horror, memory loss and manipulation. Visions and imagery of being buried alive, sacrificial death, disappearances, repetitive player character death, and drug and alcohol abuse. Bury yourself safely, neighbor. Only you know your heart.
Now that the board is set, it is time to lay the pieces.
I am your keeper of mysteries. And these, dear one, here are what went wrong. Please tell us your names, friends, while you still carry them.
[00:03:04] Speaker D: Hello, I'm Aki. Or Aquino, if you're feeling fancy. My pronouns are she, her, and I'm playing Addison Liu, who also uses she, her pronouns.
I am a husk local.
Okay. This is not your playbook. Not my playbook.
[00:03:24] Speaker A: Not your playbook.
[00:03:25] Speaker D: Not my playbook. Okay, just gonna take that.
Do you want me, Aubrey, do you want me to retake that from the beginning?
[00:03:33] Speaker E: Sure. Why not?
[00:03:34] Speaker D: Yeah. I'm sorry, I saw not your play. I was like, okay. I thought. My eyes lost focus for a second.
[00:03:41] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:03:43] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:03:44] Speaker A: Three, two, one.
[00:03:47] Speaker D: Hello, I'm Aki. Or, you know, feeling fancy. My pronouns are she, her, and I'm playing Addison Liu, who also uses she, her pronouns. I am a husk local, and, you know, I'm.
I'm a regular bitch. Some would say mundane. I think I'm pretty mundane.
Maybe.
[00:04:11] Speaker C: Hi, y'.
[00:04:12] Speaker A: All.
[00:04:12] Speaker C: I'm Alyssa. My pronouns are they, them, and. I will be playing Margaret Turkle, who uses she, her pronouns as the proud scion of the Turkel minds. Margaret has lived in husk for all 53 years of her life.
[00:04:28] Speaker E: Hello, everybody. I'm Aubrey. I use she her pronouns and I'll be playing Lacy Hawthorne, who also uses she her pronouns. And I've been in husk for most of my life.
There's a brief period where I wasn't, but unfortunately I'm back.
[00:04:48] Speaker B: Hello, everyone. I'm Josephine at Scary Dog Friend, and I'll be playing Miyeon sa. She her.
And I am not from this disgusting, dirty little place.
[00:05:02] Speaker F: Hi, everyone. I am zo they them pronouns. And I will be playing Benjamin Wolf.
He, him, he, he. And a little bit something special.
He's been the hus twice. That's like being from there, right?
[00:05:20] Speaker A: Let me tell you a story, children.
Gather round of a town where the roots are as long as the ground and the moonlight is waiting for a man with a suitcase to unpack your mistakes and lay them on down.
It's a town that's as old as the mountain's own withers Born with a spoonful of coal dust in hand and it takes and it takes and it leaves only givers to pour out a whiskey and lend out a hand have a care for this fable Owe ye children a pusk Ne' er take more than you're able or you'll cave to the dust for the neighbors are waiting for a child just like you to step in so willing to an old coning stew.
Oh, now, how long have you been in there? Quite forgotten about you.
You're not as lively as I recall. Call Aki, will you? Just you help me a moment. I need to borrow a soul.
[00:06:31] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:06:33] Speaker A: It is as dark as a grave. And as cramped as one, too. Perhaps it is yours.
You remember the strike of steel against stone? The dig of your pick into the hard bones of the earth?
The slip, the spark. The boom.
The foreman should have noticed the flagging canary. Should have called you all back out of the gas. But he never would.
Not when there's profits to make. Not when it's not his body on the line.
Who do you blame, Conrad? The man who didn't prevent this? Or you, whose hand and pick struck the spark?
[00:07:17] Speaker D: Think at first I blamed myself because I should have known better.
But also, it's been quite some time, and you should have found me by now. It's just a hole.
You know where the hole was. Just keep digging straight. What's taking so long?
[00:07:41] Speaker A: Well, sometimes people get misplaced, Conrad.
Maybe this is your grave.
An eternity is spent in the place that you died, haunting or hell.
But you still feel the crush of the earth around you. Taste the stale air whispering in and out of your chest. Feel the rough heft of the pickaxe clutched and blistered hands. Do you want to live, Conrad?
[00:08:09] Speaker D: Absolutely.
[00:08:11] Speaker A: Do you want to live?
[00:08:12] Speaker D: More than anything.
[00:08:14] Speaker A: And you know what to do?
Dig.
[00:08:22] Speaker D: I dig.
[00:08:24] Speaker C: That's right.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: The only way out is through.
Don't think of if you're digging deeper in or digging out. Keep going. Keep fighting. Keep digging.
Ah.
There. Fresher air and wider spaces. It's much too dark for you. But I'll tell you. It's an old mine shaft. Yes. Quite familiar.
I wouldn't try to light the lamps, though.
You know what happened last time. But you know the way still, surely?
[00:09:04] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah. No. I have to.
[00:09:08] Speaker A: And go.
And you do.
Step by step through the strange air that's much fresher than what you left, but is still quite stale. But you follow the slope as it moves up. And you feel your. Your heart rising with your body, returning to where you came from. Stop.
Do you feel that?
Like fingernails against your bones. Like a foreign breath in your lungs.
Something is here with you.
[00:09:49] Speaker D: Something good. Or something bad.
[00:09:51] Speaker E: Hmm.
[00:09:53] Speaker A: Could be either.
But these are the mines, Conrad.
These are husk's minds.
[00:10:09] Speaker D: So it's something bad or something worse.
I'll take. I was gonna take bad in both situation.
[00:10:17] Speaker A: Do you hear it?
That long Whistle warbling down the shaft.
And the shink of shifting coins.
I would not wish to meet it, whatever it may be. What do you do, Conrad?
[00:10:39] Speaker D: I think there was. There was a time where I was a fighting man.
When I say that, I mean in shape.
Look at me. Wrong.
We can meet out back.
Speak to me. Wrong.
We can meet right here.
Those times have changed. I've been in here for too long. I've been digging for even longer. I'm really tired.
I also can't see that well.
But mines have carts.
And I already look like dirt.
So if I find a cart, I'm hiding in there. If I find a bunch of barrels, I'm hiding behind it.
I want to hide.
[00:11:33] Speaker A: Hiding is easy when there is no light.
But are you sure what is haunting you needs light to find you?
[00:11:51] Speaker D: Something that lives this deep in the mind probably doesn't need light at all.
But I'm.
Oh, boy. Yep.
Can't dig anymore.
And you?
[00:12:11] Speaker A: Do you run?
Because what else can you possibly do besides stay and meet your fate, Whatever that may be. Which is possible. But I went through all the trouble of getting you here. It seems like a Poor way to repay some one.
And you run and you go.
And you hear it coming behind you. Faster now. The whistle. Shinking of coins shifting in a pouch.
It's such a familiar whistle. But there's no time to think about that.
[00:12:42] Speaker D: You're here.
[00:12:42] Speaker A: There's a. There's a gate. Oh, there's a gate now. There didn't used to be a gate here. It's rusted steel and wire where you know a passage should be free.
And it hums like wasps as you approach a cold, flickering, unsteady light coming from above it. That feels strange.
It's facing the wrong way. It's held fast, Conrad. And your time is running out.
I could open it for you, but haven't I helped you enough?
[00:13:21] Speaker D: You got a real funny way of spelling help.
But if you have time for games.
I am nothing but bored and tired.
So you open this door. I play along.
I've got nothing to lose but my life. And I think you know it'd be an absolute win. Waste to let me die here.
[00:13:50] Speaker A: Only a waste for you.
[00:13:53] Speaker E: However,
[00:13:55] Speaker A: I'll make you a deal.
When the time is right, I want a confession from you.
Okay?
[00:14:07] Speaker D: All right.
[00:14:09] Speaker C: All right.
[00:14:11] Speaker D: There.
[00:14:12] Speaker A: The gate is open.
[00:14:14] Speaker E: Go on.
[00:14:17] Speaker D: I done. Skedaddle.
[00:14:20] Speaker A: Conrad. Widowmir. You step free of the mines, alive and well enough.
As you rush forward toward the fresh air and the moonlight and the soft lantern glow of mining town, you trip over a body.
It has been laying so gently and serenely here at the threshold.
[00:14:45] Speaker D: Do I eat?
[00:14:47] Speaker A: Of course.
[00:14:47] Speaker D: Like how. How bad is this trip? Okay, that sucks.
I'm assuming I'm looking at this body. This is wild.
My life literally can't get any worse.
[00:15:06] Speaker C: It could.
[00:15:08] Speaker A: Do you think what's following you will stop at the entrance?
It won't stop at the entrance.
Who can say?
[00:15:19] Speaker D: Things are not supposed to come out of the mines if they're living in there. I'm not supposed to live in there. That's why I could come out.
[00:15:34] Speaker A: Well, this body is quite dead.
There's nothing you could do for her.
[00:15:42] Speaker D: Does it look appetizing?
[00:15:44] Speaker C: No.
[00:15:46] Speaker D: Okay, well, then I can't use it.
I'm. I'm booking it. I'm booking. I ate. I'm getting up. This body's useless. I'm out.
[00:15:59] Speaker A: Smart boy.
You stumble free into the moonlight and stagger down the stairs and hills into the valley of a little town called Husk.
[00:16:14] Speaker D: Great.
[00:16:14] Speaker A: So let's get started. What do you think, friends? We gonna draw an omen?
We want to start things off right.
[00:16:21] Speaker E: Yes.
[00:16:21] Speaker A: Let's do it. How bad could it be?
[00:16:27] Speaker D: Pretty bad. You made me Irish for the first.
The first ten minutes or whatever of this opening.
[00:16:36] Speaker A: Ah, delightful.
So our very first draw is the Deer in the Road, which, here we go.
Is indecision, estrangement, crisis or rootedness, communion or liberation?
You have lingered too long and have no more time. Now you should act before you cannot. You should commit before you cannot. It is already too late. You cannot.
Feels like a good choice. Feels like a good one. I feel like that's about right for what we're doing with today.
Good times.
Benjamin.
You receive a phone call at 5am from a local number. Did you answer it or let it go to voicemail?
[00:17:24] Speaker F: I think.
Oh God, this is Hus. So, anything weird?
Sure, I answer it.
[00:17:32] Speaker A: Sure.
You hear an unfamiliar voice say, without any preamble whatsoever, it would be better for all of you to stay together for these things. I'd rather not keep fabricating coincidences.
Something interesting happened at the mine today. And then they hang up.
[00:17:54] Speaker F: Well, if it's interesting today, it'll be interesting tomorrow.
And I have no idea who they're talking about.
So I come back to that.
[00:18:09] Speaker A: As you should.
Where would you be and what time is it about when you wake up and start going about your day?
[00:18:23] Speaker F: Yeah, I think where I am is not at my place. I guess we don't even have a place out of towners. The Holiday Inn. I'm not at the Holiday Inn.
I think it's been a few hours since I've been up.
And right now Ben is laying down flat on the floor, maybe on like a little raised table.
He's naked.
Ben is currently naked in front of a camera with a singular person next to him putting hot and cold objects on his chest and stomach.
He's being used as a table.
And to anyone that sees Ben, to all of the viewers that would see Ben, literally and metaphorically, he's a broad shouldered person with very big arms at both of his sides, two huge legs. He's a big guy and the look on his face is something of hollow, something of a man that would rather be dead than anywhere else. But this is where he is, so he's making the best of it. And he's looking at the screen off in the corner of multiple comments, just saying things like, I wish that were me, please. Like, oh my God, like, what a lucky guy. And he just kind of looks at that and then looks back at the ceiling. As the content creator, who is also his, probably one of his only friends in Husk is finishing what she is here to do.
[00:20:02] Speaker A: Tell me as she finishes this what emptiness within you has been amplified by your time in Husk?
[00:20:15] Speaker F: Probably loneliness.
You know you have people around but never quite feels like enough.
[00:20:26] Speaker A: So true.
Serena help finishes her stream and turns back to you to check in and go through what you need to complete your arrangement together.
Thanks you for your assistance.
What what is your plan for the rest of the day?
[00:20:57] Speaker F: Well.
[00:20:57] Speaker A: Or at least what's next?
[00:21:01] Speaker F: Well now that I've gotten the information that I needed because the weird thing about this town is everyone has a little bit of something that you need when you're looking for something.
I guess I'm gonna.
I'm gonna go maybe I'm gonna head back to the Holiday Inn and then I'm gonna go to the the mind whoever that whoever called me. I'm going to tell Mion about someone calling me at 5am while I was out and then maybe coerce her into coming with me to go to the mines.
[00:21:36] Speaker A: Speaking of Mion, where do you find yourself in the early hours of the morning?
[00:21:46] Speaker B: In almost a parallel sort of shot here she is also on the floor in varying states of undress and disarray as she had mixed her pills and alcohol the night before and had an incredibly fantastic time with some minors
[00:22:10] Speaker E: Miners.
[00:22:10] Speaker A: As in coal miners, Right?
[00:22:12] Speaker B: Yes.
[00:22:13] Speaker A: Sorry, sorry we gonna have to specify this a lot in this game.
[00:22:16] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:22:18] Speaker A: My apologies to everyone for making a game with miners.
[00:22:25] Speaker B: Like my hair is all messed up and you know, everything is everywhere and thankfully Ben and I do not share a room so that this mess is not his as well. But would she make him usually deal with that? Yes, she gets herself together already feeling a sort of headache, lights a cigarette while inside of her room at the inn as she begins to walk outside with more clothes on. But bright and early in the morning we're gonna enjoy a cigarette, we're gonna enjoy a black coffee and if anyone tries to talk to me it is received with a very cold no.
[00:23:17] Speaker A: As you step outside and open your door, you step on something that kind of crinkles under.
[00:23:29] Speaker B: I lift up my beautiful heel.
[00:23:32] Speaker A: There is a one of those stiff paper napkins branded with mom's all day breakfast that has been slid under your door.
[00:23:46] Speaker B: I unravel.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: It has a message written on it in pen that reads have you ever considered how tiring it is keeping it all to yourself?
Still, you'll want to catch the gossip today.
[00:24:06] Speaker B: I vigorously tear the napkin and throw it away
[00:24:14] Speaker A: naturally.
Would you like to describe yourself? And as you do tell me the first name on your lips when you awake.
[00:24:26] Speaker B: Myun Se is an average height busty young woman in her early 30s. She has although, like although the messy hair from just waking up. She has a straight perm so that her hair maintains very meticulously.
She if it is not clear to you her favorite color is blue.
She wears very luxurious feeling clothing. Anything that makes her comfortable.
A shiny printed top, manicured nails.
Always make sure to put on some kind of makeup once she officially starts starts her day. But just kind of crawling out of bed a cigarette outside is all that she needs.
And she always makes sure to stand as tall as possible with heels that are maybe 4 inches tall. Just depends on how she's feeling. She brought too many shoes on the trip.
It's how it goes.
[00:25:37] Speaker A: Be respected.
[00:25:39] Speaker B: And the first name out of my lips as I kind of the first name that comes out of my lips as I burst open Ben's door, noticing that he's not inside is Ben.
[00:26:05] Speaker A: Benjamin. What time do you get back?
[00:26:09] Speaker F: Well, I think maybe it's only been a few hours. The stream didn't take that long though I think he did get breakfast with Serena.
So maybe like nine.
[00:26:24] Speaker A: So a few hours I would say have. Are passed between finding Ben absent and Ben's arrival.
What do you do in that gap in between?
[00:26:40] Speaker B: I am going to as I come back in for my cigarette, getting ready, taking the time, you know, taking a proper hour most likely to put makeup on, put on, curate an outfit.
I create sort of like a mental itinerary of where we will go, if anything.
I think pulling open a map of Husk in the first place.
Hawthorne Antiques is as someone who has an anthropological and archaeological background, it's gonna be the first thing that comes to mind. Especially if items and materials and ancient things and curses is potentially how some of us got here.
But again, or rather but anyway, the dull ache of where a memory should be in her brain kind of sends a shiver or a chill of discomfort throughout her and she's sort of realizing maybe we're gonna need a drink bright and early.
But first of all.
But throughout all of my mental itinerary making I am gonna see if Ben is gonna pick up the phone.
I don't think I immediately tried to call, but I go for it this time.
[00:28:18] Speaker F: What time do you call?
[00:28:21] Speaker B: Probably like nine or something.
[00:28:23] Speaker F: Oh yeah, he's. He answers phone yeah.
[00:28:27] Speaker B: Hello? Where the Are you?
[00:28:29] Speaker F: Walking back to the inn. Getting. Do you want breakfast?
[00:28:35] Speaker B: Sure.
From where?
[00:28:38] Speaker F: I don't know.
I mean there's only like what, six?
[00:28:41] Speaker D: No.
[00:28:43] Speaker B: Where were you walking? Where are you walking from?
[00:28:46] Speaker F: Oh, I was following a lead, doing a favor. Get a favor back.
You know, quid pro quo.
[00:28:58] Speaker B: We just got into town and you're following a lead?
[00:29:03] Speaker F: Why would I not be? I mean, what, how many days, weeks? It doesn't matter. You gotta get the ground. Gotta, gotta.
Yes, yes. And also I've been here before. I have one, maybe two friends.
Haven't you also been here?
[00:29:24] Speaker B: Yeah, I've been here, but I don't keep friends.
[00:29:27] Speaker F: Okay, yeah, no heard miss.
But yeah, I'll be back in like five, ten minutes.
[00:29:36] Speaker B: I want strawberry French toast, easy.
[00:29:39] Speaker F: Am I making this or do you want me to pick this up?
[00:29:43] Speaker B: I thought you were picking it up. And it's just like this awful continued conversation. I think of just two people who should not be on a trip together.
[00:29:54] Speaker F: Yeah, and it ends.
[00:29:57] Speaker A: I will say it's worth pointing out that the best place to get breakfast, in fact the only place to get breakfast in this tiny town is mom's all day breakfast. So that's where that French toast is coming from.
While you are handling breakfast and reconvening together, what wakes you first? Margaret Turkel? The fact that someone is rooting around in your room or the dripping dreams of blood to be paid?
[00:30:30] Speaker C: I mean just the sound of.
No, I'm used to the sound of other people in my room. So it would be the dreams.
[00:30:40] Speaker A: Indeed. And they do.
How do you feel upon waking up from these very terrible lingering dreams?
[00:30:54] Speaker C: If that's the price to be paid for continuing on in this town, that's what I need to keep upholding my legacy, then I'll gladly pay it.
[00:31:06] Speaker A: Oh, you have yet to begun to
[00:31:08] Speaker C: pay it,
[00:31:11] Speaker A: but there is absolutely someone in your room right now and it is not your wife.
[00:31:21] Speaker C: I think that I assume that it is at a first sort of groaning. Eyes still closed. Mia, you lived here for two years.
What do you need to rummage around for?
[00:31:36] Speaker A: You hear a weird.
It's almost like a chitter. If the chitter happened directly in your ears, like buzzing insects more in your brain than it is in your ears.
[00:31:50] Speaker F: I suppose.
[00:31:56] Speaker B: She
[00:31:58] Speaker C: what is her flight fight response?
I think that she scrambles away from the sound which is in her brain. So it is not easy to get away from.
Opens her eyes, looks around for what it is that's gotten in. Which of the neighbors has sort of broken beyond the lines of neighborliness? I think in breaking into my bedroom.
[00:32:26] Speaker A: Yeah.
As soon as you see it though, you understand why there Is a creature about 2ft tall, round proportions like a raccoon. Blue gray fur, a ringed tail. Very easy to mistake for a raccoon, except for the alarmingly human hands and ears. And when you move, it whirls towards you. Faceless jewelry and your phone clutched in those child sized hands. It's a moat. The most harmless of all the neighbors of Husk, but they are terrible little thieves.
[00:33:04] Speaker C: Oh, absolutely not. And she will lunge not for the phone, but for the jewelry, which is heirloom, of course.
Of course.
[00:33:15] Speaker A: I'm gonna.
[00:33:15] Speaker D: You know what?
[00:33:16] Speaker A: I feel like it's time. It's time we have a role here.
Why don't you act under pressure or you can kick some ass. It's up to you.
It depends. It's up to you on your approach for dealing with this particular scenario here.
[00:33:29] Speaker C: No, this is definitely an act under pressure. I am upset that they are here, but I am not upset enough to try and do violence.
That is a six plus zero.
[00:33:43] Speaker A: Naturally, the little, little guy chitters again in that way that just buzzes in your brain directly, but there is like a mischievous laughing edge to it. And then they bolt right through your open window, taking the jewelry and your phone with them.
[00:34:07] Speaker C: She sort of looks outside, sees if it's sort of staying in the yard or if it has fled into the woods.
[00:34:14] Speaker A: It's making a speedy hustle for the woods, which are closer to your house than they are to most.
[00:34:23] Speaker C: Mia.
She's sort of calling out to the rest of the house. Babe, are you still here?
[00:34:29] Speaker D: Silence.
[00:34:31] Speaker C: Fuck.
[00:34:33] Speaker D: She
[00:34:36] Speaker C: will pull on a dressing gown, slip into boots that I think belong to her wife, because Margaret does not tromp around in heavy boots very often and make her way out to the woods to see if she can catch this little thief before it's gone forever.
[00:35:03] Speaker A: Okay.
Yeah. Do you want to roll for it or do you want to draw for it?
[00:35:14] Speaker C: My first roll didn't go well. So let's try drawing.
[00:35:16] Speaker A: Let's try drawing.
[00:35:17] Speaker D: Sure.
[00:35:19] Speaker C: The winner is the Ancients.
[00:35:22] Speaker A: Oh, delightful. The Ancients are endurance, resolve, unyielding, or stubbornness. Perdition. Being without mercy, unyielding and powerful. The Ancients cannot be broken, but also cannot be moved. They hear no pleas for mercy and offer no salvation. So now that you have drawn instead of using a roll. Hello, Fun. We are doing a little additional homebrew snaked into monster of the week, which is using a little omen deck periodically, wherein the person who draws get to mark experience.
We get to negotiate what happens based off of the card drawn and I get to mark a little something, something on my side. Everyone gets something fun.
So I am inclined to say that your stubbornness prevails in here. What is your thoughts?
[00:36:10] Speaker C: I mean, I agree, sure.
[00:36:15] Speaker A: Due to the, the, the double sided nature of this card though, I think one thing is going to be lost. What do you lose to the moat?
You know what?
[00:36:28] Speaker C: No, actually, the thing that I lose, the thing that the motes are able to take from me is a diamond ring.
Not mine, not one from one of my marriages. But it used to belong to my sister before she died.
[00:36:46] Speaker A: Excellent.
You steal your phone back. And as you are marching back to the house in triumph with almost all your jewelry and your phone intact, you notice that you have a text from yourself to an unknown number that reads, I know how to pay what I owe. And it includes a photo, rather pixelated, of a hand covered in blood.
[00:37:14] Speaker C: I think as I'm walking inside. I will google the phone number, the unknown number I texted to see if it's anyone I know actually. Is it like a local area?
[00:37:26] Speaker A: Okay, it's a local, local number.
[00:37:29] Speaker C: Yeah, I will google it.
[00:37:31] Speaker A: Nothing comes up.
[00:37:34] Speaker C: Yeah, that's to be expected, I think, here in Husk.
[00:37:38] Speaker A: Yeah.
But I think that was a great time for you to describe yourself. And as you do, tell me if you believe that your wife could truly love you.
[00:37:49] Speaker D: Wow.
[00:37:49] Speaker C: Okay, so Margaret is unlike the previous two deviants. Margaret is usually very well put together even at an early hour. But she was awoken a little bit unceremoniously today and so is much more disheveled than you would normally find her.
She's a well to do woman, early 50s.
She has sort of very plump, soft, well cared for, light brimmed skin, just the faintest suggestion of wrinkles around her eyes.
You know, these days she's a lesbian. So her hair, which is dark curls shot through with silver, is cropped short.
In her youth it was much longer, much more luxurious.
And although she is in basically pajamas and dressing robe, they are of decent, decently high quality, though a little threadbare perhaps, times being what they are.
And as for my wife, beautiful, sweet Mia, I don't know what there is to love.
There's the mines, of course, there's the family name, but Margaret herself, that's not anything really, is it?
Hmm.
[00:39:32] Speaker A: Sounds like a no to me.
Your phone rings. It's the foreman.
[00:39:42] Speaker C: Makes a face.
Doesn't want to think that he's better than her because he is up doing work and she is only up because she was awoken by emote this morning, but will answer in a chipper voice, fake smile pressed across her face, though of course he cannot see it.
Good morning. Did we have a meeting today?
[00:40:05] Speaker A: Ma'? Am?
Situation at the mine. Just protocol to inform you.
[00:40:12] Speaker C: And what type of situation is it?
Of course. Do you have specifics on it?
[00:40:24] Speaker A: No.
[00:40:28] Speaker C: So you haven't investigated yourself? Did someone call you and tell you about this?
[00:40:35] Speaker A: It's a bit odd I haven't seen the lake before.
[00:40:46] Speaker C: Are you there now?
[00:40:50] Speaker A: Nope.
It's in my house.
We'll handle it.
Good morning. And then they hang up.
[00:41:09] Speaker C: Why are you calling me? For personal problems.
And she will continue making her way inside.
[00:41:19] Speaker A: Lacy, when you unlock the antique store this Friday morning, you find a Polaroid has been dropped through the mail slot.
[00:41:30] Speaker E: Strange.
[00:41:32] Speaker A: Yeah, it's a photo of the Turkle Mines from a really weird angle.
[00:41:41] Speaker E: Any writing or anything on it?
[00:41:44] Speaker A: Yeah, it's one of the Polaroids that includes a timestamp which is today.
And the back of the photo has a drawing of a rib cage made of mismatched bones.
[00:41:57] Speaker E: That doesn't mean anything to do with me, does it?
[00:42:00] Speaker A: I don't know.
Do you have items in your possession?
[00:42:07] Speaker E: I mean, this is an antique store. I got weird things all the time.
[00:42:13] Speaker A: Certainly it does strike a chord with you for perhaps reasons you're not quite sure.
[00:42:21] Speaker E: Yeah.
Feel like I've seen it before.
I can't put my finger on where or when.
[00:42:31] Speaker A: No, you know what? It would make a really good corset though.
Like a little adjustment. It'd be nice. Yes.
[00:42:38] Speaker E: Yeah. Yeah, it would.
But I'm.
There's nothing else to.
It's a weird thing and weird things happen all the time in this town. So I'm going to put it on the counter and just go about my opening.
As you know, I gotta start a run.
[00:43:00] Speaker A: You do?
So why don't you describe yourself and as you do, tell me, when was the last time you tasted blood?
[00:43:11] Speaker E: Um.
I am a woman in my early 20s.
On the shorter side, probably five, five or so.
Currently I'm just wearing a pair of beat up old Converse, an old pair of jeans, a tank top and a flannel.
My hair is back in sort of like a messy ponytail. I just. I woke up this morning and I just didn't really feel like spending the time to tame it.
And as of now, not really wearing any makeup. Didn't see too much of a use for it if I'm just going to be running the shop all day.
And as for the Last time I tasted black blood.
I don't know the exact time, but the feeling of the copper taste in my mouth feels relatively recent. But that's weird. I must have just bit my lip too hard or something.
[00:44:31] Speaker D: Sure.
[00:44:32] Speaker A: Nosebleed all sorts of times.
[00:44:34] Speaker E: Yeah,
[00:44:39] Speaker A: You have probably like a couple hours in the shop. What time do you usually open the antique store?
[00:44:47] Speaker E: Usually like 9 o' clock or so.
Most of the shops around me don't open up tiller around that time, if not later. So yeah, you know, it makes sense to open up around then.
[00:44:59] Speaker A: So it's probably maybe an hour, maybe an hour and a half where you get a customer.
Well, okay, probably she's not a customer. You know her, she's not likely to buy anything, but she does visit from time to time.
She's a small, petite child.
There's a sort of of questionable age aura to her where she gives that like ancient but young feel to her, but looks like a child.
She's got very like straw blonde hair that's sort of in a choppy cut around her shoulders.
And she comes in and doesn't. Doesn't do prelude very well. Doesn't do greetings very well. There's a. There's an air of.
Just doesn't have a lot of practice socializing to her.
But you know, her name is Canary.
You see her around town periodically and sometimes she just shows up sometimes and makes demands of you.
Like today, wherein she comes in and props up at the counter, puts her elbows up on it, pulls herself up a little higher so she's not quite like below counter length and says, you're in the wrong place.
[00:46:21] Speaker E: Good morning.
What do you mean I'm in the wrong place?
[00:46:24] Speaker A: You're in the wrong place. You're not supposed to be here. Things are gonna go bad, but you gotta be not here.
[00:46:30] Speaker E: Where should I be then?
[00:46:32] Speaker A: The obvious place. Where do things go bad?
[00:46:38] Speaker E: The entire town?
[00:46:40] Speaker A: No, that's the easy answer. Where do things go bad?
[00:46:45] Speaker E: My life. I don't know.
[00:46:47] Speaker A: You're being so boring today.
Haven't you talked to anyone yet?
[00:46:52] Speaker E: Come on, I woke up 45 minutes ago.
[00:46:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:46:59] Speaker E: You look good.
It's one of those mornings I haven't had coffee yet.
[00:47:07] Speaker A: You know, coffee would go so much faster if you stop making two.
[00:47:12] Speaker E: Yeah, yeah, it would.
[00:47:15] Speaker A: Or if you drink both.
Or if you went where you're supposed to be, which is not here. You gotta close, you gotta go. Come on.
[00:47:28] Speaker E: It.
No one's gonna pop in for a while anyway.
[00:47:32] Speaker A: No one's going to pop in for A while. I could watch it.
[00:47:45] Speaker E: Going to look at this kid.
And just say, sure, watch it while I. I don't know, get coffee.
[00:47:59] Speaker D: Delightful.
[00:48:00] Speaker A: Don't get coffee. You know where you have to go. Get out of here. Shoot.
[00:48:05] Speaker E: Okay, I'm gonna go get coffee. I don't know where I need to go.
[00:48:11] Speaker A: You'll figure it out.
[00:48:11] Speaker C: Bye.
[00:48:14] Speaker A: She locks the door behind you.
[00:48:16] Speaker E: I have the keys, but, you know. Sure.
[00:48:19] Speaker A: It's the thought that counts.
[00:48:21] Speaker E: Yeah, exactly.
[00:48:24] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:48:24] Speaker A: So you head out wherever you feel you have to go.
And Addison, it's the beginning of a new mystery. So I need you to roll plus weird.
[00:48:34] Speaker D: Yes, you do. Yes, you do.
Okay, That sucks ass.
Would have been a 7 minus 1 to weird, so it's a 6. But I'm gonna take that experience and roll with this.
[00:48:56] Speaker A: You wake up and the dream lingers in your body. A distorted whistle echoing around you.
Something claws at you, reaching into your heart and removing it.
But when it holds it up before you, all you see is an enormous chunk of coal that crumbles into a figure you recognize before breaking to dust.
As in, where do we find you at the lively hour of 5am on a Friday.
[00:49:28] Speaker D: Goddamn.
I have probably respawned back into my room, right? 5am on a Friday.
I am.
Honest to God, I'm probably in my. I'm in my PJs, right? Like most people. 5am on a. On a Friday. I was in bed. My hair is messy. My hair is very long and dark.
It's in that state where it's in between curly and knot.
Gravity tends to do what it wants with my hair.
I've got bags on. Bags on, bags on my eyes with. Honestly, I think my eyes have that real fun, like clay, like red clay, pottery kind of color going on where it's like.
It's like really nice until it's not kind of vibe, right? Semi. Like, it's like, oh, beautiful in the light.
Why there's the sun left hours ago.
[00:50:36] Speaker A: Jesus.
[00:50:36] Speaker D: Like, you know, one of those. One of those kind of vibes and everything else that I wear that I own always. Way too oversized, very much hand me downs.
Honestly, like, very masculine clothing.
Despite, like, the rest of me is rather femme.
My room is rather.
[00:50:59] Speaker B: Is.
[00:50:59] Speaker D: Is a good like, alternative fem. Like, I'll have a picture like a poster of Sailor Moon plushies and then like, I don't know, sleep token or something like that all over room. It's. It's. It's one hell of a whiplash. But you're like, yeah, okay, all her interests at once in this one room.
[00:51:22] Speaker A: Tell me, what are you holding on to too tightly?
[00:51:35] Speaker D: A trinket. Maybe like a necklace or something like that or a pendant for a necklace that's just like at this point got like. It's like indented into my hand. That's how tight I was gripping it.
Does your.
[00:51:51] Speaker A: Does your little vision linger?
[00:51:56] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, I think they linger a lot.
Like I'm up at 5am But I. I'm not getting up from bed until like 5:10, 5:15, you know, because that's. I need some time to acclimate.
I need time to acclimatize.
These visions don't really help with that.
Also it's like in the 2000 and 20s and I have a cell phone.
[00:52:25] Speaker A: I'm not getting up.
[00:52:26] Speaker D: I'm on tik tok.
[00:52:30] Speaker A: When.
When do you go downstairs?
[00:52:36] Speaker D: I think today I'll go downstairs. 5:15.
[00:52:39] Speaker A: Okay.
You do so and you find your guardian. The foreman sitting at the kitchen table with an expression like someone realizing their coffee is just all grounds.
The reason for this expression is the pale young man sitting across from them, covered completely in coal dust, save for where he wiped his face with the foreman's handkerchief, nervously drumming his fingers against a mug. He looks like a minor, like a coal miner. But you know all of them and have never seen this one.
But he stands when you enter and like reaches to doff a cap that he is not wearing. Realizes this and then just sort of scratches the back of his head to cover.
Morning miss.
[00:53:33] Speaker D: My. My face goes through all five stages of grief as I try to figure out what is going on. Because like you said, I know all the coal miners.
I was the coal miners. Miner, double miner. It cancels each other out.
[00:53:56] Speaker A: That's how this minor is minored. And mining.
[00:54:02] Speaker D: Yeah, I knew all of them. I still know all of them. What do you. What am I saying? This is new. And this guy looks just straight up dirty and confused and that's never a good sign. But also the foreman looks.
I wouldn't say upset, just. Just a general grounds of disappointment.
That's not always fun. But.
It's husk. I can't not greet him politely. Hi.
Real early to be working.
[00:54:44] Speaker A: It is technically past the hour that you would expect the foreman to be leaving. Usually the foreman heads to work around 5 so this would be a late morning for them. And they haven't. They don't look ready to go. They are just wearing like a binder and overalls.
[00:55:02] Speaker D: Well that, that, that wasn't. That wasn't addressed to the foreman. That was addressed to this dirty looking guy. That could be. Yeah, that looks like. Yeah, it looks like he came from the mines. So it's like for sure nobody wakes up earlier than the foreman to go to work.
Exactly. We live. The mines are right there. We live on site.
So this is a little weird.
[00:55:26] Speaker A: And the young man goes to answer and the foreman just slaps a hand on the table and stands.
They look at him and he sits back down. And they look at you and just flick their eyes towards the hallway. Foreman's never been one for many words where none will do.
And they go out in the hallway waiting for you to join them.
[00:55:53] Speaker D: So I think we have like a kitchen, dining room situation. Like it's the same thing.
I'm just gonna pull out like a, like this. We totally have like, like, like, I don't know, like Twinkies or like buns wrapped in plastic that we grabbed like from the grocery store or something. Like a honey bun. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm just gonna take one of those. That's like around probably like on a. In the pantry or maybe even like just on the table. Just take one. I'm gonna toss it to the guy.
To the dirty guy.
I feel bad calling him the dirty guy, but my. I'm in my jammies.
You're in could have been better shape. So yeah, I'm tossing. Toss them the honey bun.
Finger guns. I'm just gonna go, go to the hallway. I've been summoned to the hallway. This is nice. Awkward meeting.
[00:56:51] Speaker A: Yeah. The foreman is like a tall, muscular individual with like the default expression of disgruntled.
With like short cropped brown hair, thickset eyebrows, and like light skin. Skin that's just riddled with scarring.
And they wait until you're like settled in the hallway and then they look like towards the doorway where they can just see like they're keeping that young guy in sight at all times, but staying out of sight of him.
And by way of explanation of the whole thing, just says he started banging on the door an hour ago.
Odd sort.
[00:57:40] Speaker D: Is he lost?
[00:57:47] Speaker A: Ask him his date of birth.
You'll see.
[00:57:52] Speaker D: I peeked my head out like a, like, like one of those meme drawings where like there's like four people stacked on the side. That's why I look like.
Think of the tangled cover.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, like that.
Stick my head out and just be like, when's your birthday?
[00:58:18] Speaker A: Oh, that is really, actually a really fun fact.
First January.
And I was the first baby born in husk. For the 20th century, Maybe that's not interesting.
[00:58:38] Speaker B: Sorry.
[00:58:39] Speaker D: No, no.
[00:58:40] Speaker A: For now, I suppose.
[00:58:41] Speaker D: No, no, no. My guy just. Just. It's like it's 5:22 in the morning.
You're gonna just use. Use. Use number.
[00:58:53] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. And 1990, of course, I did have a.
Where. What is this? And, like, he holds up the honey bun, which he's opened kind of disastrously, but it's open and he has it out.
[00:59:12] Speaker D: It's. It's a honey bun.
[00:59:15] Speaker A: I mean, a pastry.
[00:59:22] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, a pastry. My guy.
Say that year again. Say. Just say. Say one. Say one more time.
[00:59:33] Speaker A: Whatever I said before, it was definitely 1900s. 100% only said 1900.
[00:59:40] Speaker D: Okay, okay, okay, okay.
I just wanted. I just want to double check that, because I heard 1990, and I'm like, do you mean 1890 or something like that?
[00:59:51] Speaker A: Okay, okay.
Definitely 1-900.
[00:59:57] Speaker D: Oh, 1900. 1900.
[01:00:02] Speaker A: Yep. That's the year. That's the turn of the century.
The current century that we're currently in, the 20th.
Apart from these, which don't seem like a thing. That husk would have.
Very modern.
[01:00:16] Speaker D: I'm gonna blow your mind in, like, 10 minutes.
And I pop back in. I go. Look at my. Not dad. Dad. And just go, oh, jeez.
He hit his head so hard.
[01:00:34] Speaker A: Possibly.
[01:00:40] Speaker F: Did she.
[01:00:42] Speaker D: Did you get his name? Does he look familiar to me?
[01:00:44] Speaker A: He doesn't look familiar to me, no.
But I don't know how old you
[01:00:51] Speaker B: think I am
[01:00:54] Speaker A: to know someone allegedly that old.
[01:01:01] Speaker D: Well, no, no, I just. I just mean, like, you know, like, if he wasn't that old, you know, just like, like, like a new guy, new in town, Hit his head, woke up in the vines. That's not.
[01:01:15] Speaker A: That's
[01:01:17] Speaker D: normal. That's kind of normal.
[01:01:23] Speaker A: There's a few options.
All bad.
[01:01:31] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:01:33] Speaker A: Could be flipped.
Oh, he could totally be flipped.
But usually if they're flipped, we know them and they're just flipped around.
I don't know him, and he seems normal.
[01:02:02] Speaker D: Can I break the news to him? Because then he won't be normal.
You're, like, way more calmer than me.
[01:02:09] Speaker A: Let me get my shovel.
And they go and they grab a shovel off the wall by the door, and they come back and they just wait in the hallway and let you go break the noose.
[01:02:23] Speaker D: I see that.
Yeah. It's like I watch Foreman go do that.
I stand by the doorway. I occasionally make direct eye contact. It just go one second, you know?
And then when the shovel is ready and in place, place. I will Go back kind of like, sit down at the. At the table and just be like, oh, do you got a name? Do you remember your name?
[01:02:53] Speaker A: Oh, right, sorry. Conrad. Wir.
You're.
They didn't really give much of a.
A name. I didn't hear it. I mean, I. I swear they said it and I didn't hear it.
[01:03:09] Speaker D: Yeah, that happens.
The Foreman. Just. Just call her the Foreman.
[01:03:14] Speaker A: Okay. Not.
Not the one that. I know.
[01:03:18] Speaker E: Yeah.
[01:03:19] Speaker D: Yeah. Okay, buddy. Conrad. Comrade. Right.
[01:03:23] Speaker A: Right.
[01:03:24] Speaker D: Okay. I'm Addison. Pleasure.
[01:03:26] Speaker F: Yeah.
[01:03:27] Speaker D: Nice to meet you.
So.
You're in the future.
[01:03:42] Speaker A: Of time?
[01:03:45] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. Oh, you want. There's a lot of things I'd like to show you and, like, tell you, but it's not.
It's like 2024, bro.
G. Actually. Actually. Fair keeper. What. What. What year is it? What year is it?
[01:04:04] Speaker A: Sure, let's go with 2024. I like that year better anyway.
[01:04:08] Speaker D: Holy.
Yeah, that's right. Because tick tock's gotta exist, my guy.
[01:04:13] Speaker A: It's a better year.
[01:04:14] Speaker D: It is a better year. It's such a. It's such a good year. I could. I can, like, show him things.
[01:04:20] Speaker A: I'm gonna blow his mind.
[01:04:24] Speaker D: Yeah, it's.
[01:04:24] Speaker B: It's.
[01:04:25] Speaker D: It's. The year is 2024, So.
[01:04:33] Speaker A: And I'm not dead.
[01:04:40] Speaker D: You look really alive.
[01:04:42] Speaker A: I feel alive. I. I mean, I want to be alive. It's just, you know.
Yeah.
[01:04:50] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:04:51] Speaker A: I thought I died. It's the reason. It's the thing. See, there was.
[01:04:55] Speaker D: It's because you were in the mines. Right?
[01:04:56] Speaker B: Right.
[01:04:56] Speaker A: And there was a.
[01:04:57] Speaker D: You were lost in the margin, you
[01:04:59] Speaker A: know, and so I figured.
[01:05:00] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah.
[01:05:01] Speaker A: Dead.
[01:05:02] Speaker D: Okay.
[01:05:02] Speaker A: But then I wasn't. There was, like, I don't know, someone sort of speaking to me. I had the feeling like I'd been dropped, you know? I don't know how to explain that one. And then. And then I wasn't in the mind anymore, but now it's not the right year.
[01:05:19] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:05:22] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:05:22] Speaker D: So. I mean, this doesn't happen often, but it doesn't, like, not not happen.
[01:05:26] Speaker A: I. I don't know. I don't. Is it. This is still huskering. It looks a lot like it.
[01:05:33] Speaker D: Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's. It's still husk. You're still in husk. It's just a different year.
[01:05:39] Speaker A: I don't know what you're familiar with in your.
You're here, but I. I'm not. I'm not sort of neighborly, if you
[01:05:48] Speaker C: know what I mean.
[01:05:52] Speaker A: I'm friendly, but I'm not neighborly.
[01:05:54] Speaker D: You know, neighborly. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Accent Costic there.
Yeah, no, that's fine. I'm semi friendly. Semi neighborly, I'd like to think, you know,
[01:06:10] Speaker C: semi.
[01:06:13] Speaker D: I grew up over here, man. I like. I like to say, man, I just like cursing and I'm being as polite as I can to you.
[01:06:23] Speaker A: No, I mean, good on you.
[01:06:25] Speaker D: But I mean, that, that, like, that. That. That aside, that is sad.
I'm just. I'm just. Yeah, no, I'm just trying to break it in properly for you, you know, like, don't freak out.
Freak out. It'll. You'll get worse. You're gonna invite things.
[01:06:42] Speaker A: I assume the rules are about the same.
[01:06:46] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:06:47] Speaker A: Probably worse for you than they were for me, maybe.
[01:06:50] Speaker D: Oh, you don't even know, buddy.
Okay, okay, okay. So you're taking this, like, really greatly.
[01:07:00] Speaker A: I am from Husk.
That's good.
[01:07:03] Speaker D: That's great. That's great. Anyways, that's. That's. That's the. Dad.
Dad, you can come here.
[01:07:10] Speaker A: The miner doesn't.
[01:07:11] Speaker B: Not the minor.
[01:07:12] Speaker A: The foreman doesn't come out quite right away, but you hear like a little soft chunk of like the shovel being put back on the wall and.
[01:07:19] Speaker D: Yeah, we were just. Yeah, sorry.
Yeah, we were just really. You know, like, not everybody takes it super well and then they, like get a little. They get a little violent and then, you know, we gotta get the shovel.
No, no.
[01:07:36] Speaker A: I'm not the first one to come from a different time into this time, but still be in husking the whole time.
Vanished, I guess, in the middle there. Possibly dead. Maybe not dead.
Probably dead, but not dead now.
And I don't look like 103. I don't look like it.
[01:08:01] Speaker D: No, no, you look.
You look great for your age because you're supposed to be like a hundred plus. You. You. The White Avatar.
That's a reference you'll never understand. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll show you shows later. Maybe. I don't know.
But. But yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, no, you. You look young.
[01:08:31] Speaker A: You don't.
[01:08:31] Speaker D: You don't look. You don't look. Child labor young. I'm assuming that's good.
[01:08:38] Speaker A: Well, no, I mean, no, that was very much a thing.
[01:08:41] Speaker D: Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I was like, yeah, you look. I mean, you don't look like.
Like super grown, but you don't look.
[01:08:48] Speaker A: I'm 19.
[01:08:49] Speaker D: Okay. Yeah, you look 19.
[01:08:51] Speaker A: That's what I feel like, anyway.
[01:08:53] Speaker D: Yeah, that's the vibe.
[01:08:59] Speaker A: Unless I. Not now because of the. You know, we won't count the years we don't know anything about.
[01:09:03] Speaker D: Maybe, like, after a shower, you can, like, take a look at yourself and then be like, yeah, you're, like, so dirty, my guy.
[01:09:12] Speaker A: Oh, you know, I had to dig myself out of my own grave.
[01:09:14] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I figured. I feel. I felt bad, but, like, at the same time, I'm like, you know, it's
[01:09:18] Speaker A: super haunted down there. I don't know if you're aware if this is a new thing or, like an old thing, but it's super haunted down there.
[01:09:24] Speaker D: No, no, no, I'm very. Yeah, we're very. It's. It's kind of. It's kind of. It's kind of their job. I'm pointing to my dad. Better be behind me.
[01:09:33] Speaker A: Oh, yeah, absolutely.
In the most menacing way behind you. Like, this is. This is pure. Like, you brought your prom date home to dad, and this is his first time meeting prom date, and he is ready to be, you know, very rude about it.
That's the.
[01:09:52] Speaker D: Of course I'm getting blamed for this.
Yeah, and just. Just gesture like. Yeah, no, that's. That's. That's their job.
She kind of goes in, make sure everybody comes out.
Occasionally, she's gonna save someone new. So it's. It's not. That's. That's. That's what I mean. It's. It's not a frequent thing, but you're not the first.
[01:10:19] Speaker A: Well, that's, I think, reassuring.
[01:10:23] Speaker D: I. I mean, I haven't got time today. I could show you around town and stuff. You know, maybe when everything's more awake and, you know, we won't run into, like, the Slaughter man or something, and we'll be fine.
[01:10:41] Speaker A: The what?
[01:10:42] Speaker D: Slaughter Man.
Oh, yeah, he is.
Technically, we're not supposed to talk about him.
[01:10:51] Speaker B: Was.
[01:10:51] Speaker D: Was the worst thing is going to happen, he's going to show up.
[01:10:53] Speaker A: You get like a hand on your head that just very gently pushes, like, your head down a little bit. Not. Not in a. Like a. Like in a mean way. Just in a please shut up way from the performance.
[01:11:09] Speaker D: Either. Either way, we got. We got. We got. We got. We got weird neighbors. We got regular people.
We keep getting new people that should probably not be here, but, you know, it's hustle.
[01:11:26] Speaker A: All right, well. Well, pleasure to meet you, I guess. And I'm going to have to process this at some point.
[01:11:39] Speaker D: You want to.
You want to take a bath? You want to clean yourself up?
[01:11:45] Speaker A: Sure. If that's a possibility, that'd be great.
[01:11:48] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
My Guy, do you know what running water is?
[01:11:53] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:11:54] Speaker B: Okay, good.
[01:11:54] Speaker D: I was. I'm not sure, man. Okay. I. I gave up.
[01:12:00] Speaker A: I mean, Husk wasn't exactly top of the line and, you know, I don't have money ever, but.
[01:12:08] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. See, that part hasn't changed.
[01:12:12] Speaker A: Good old Husk. May she never prosper.
[01:12:16] Speaker D: Oh, yeah.
I mean, we got rich folk, but not. Not in the fun way, I guess.
[01:12:26] Speaker A: The, you know, owners of the mine. Yeah, yeah, the old foreman, the one before yours, super obsessed with the. With the lady of the lady of the mines.
Very obsessed.
[01:12:43] Speaker D: The new mine owner has taken a turn for the lesbian now, so, you know, there's new things every day.
Do you know what a lesbian is?
The term. Okay. Like sapphic.
[01:13:04] Speaker A: Oh, yeah.
[01:13:06] Speaker D: Women. Yeah, women. Women loving women. Yay. You know, Ally. Okay, I'm gonna get you a bath.
[01:13:11] Speaker A: Very good. Close personal friend.
[01:13:13] Speaker D: Amazing. Wonderful. I'm gonna get you a bath. Stand up.
I'm just trying to figure out what clothes to get you.
[01:13:27] Speaker A: The foreman, like, pats your shoulder and says, I'll talk to Jason and get something. Can you go see that witch for fresh charms?
I don't like the air today.
[01:13:43] Speaker D: Yeah, okay.
[01:13:44] Speaker A: Take him with you. Or don't.
[01:13:47] Speaker D: No, I am. It's gonna be kind of weird to. To leave him in our house unattended.
That's. That's bad. That's bad.
[01:13:59] Speaker C: All right.
[01:14:02] Speaker A: They don't look convinced.
And they're just gonna get up and put on a coat and walk out the door.
[01:14:12] Speaker D: I'm just.
I'm gonna run that guy a bath, tell him what to use. Like, you know, like, what is what. Here's all the soaps. This is my Korean skincare. You know, like, shit like that. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. You can use this. You can use this. Whatever.
Wash as many times as you need to. We probably have one of those. We have one of those faucets where the line between boiling hot and way too cold is like. Like. Like two. Two millimeters. Yeah. So you got it, like, wiggling the shit out of that. And before the water is like that acceptable amount of warm, that perfect amount of warmth, I'm going to let him do his thing.
Then I'm gonna actually wear clothes.
[01:14:55] Speaker A: Important.
[01:14:57] Speaker D: I'm gonna make sure my phone is charged, which it probably sort of semi is. I think it's charged enough for the day.
[01:15:07] Speaker A: Sorry, I had to get lipstick off my cat's nose.
[01:15:11] Speaker D: Nah, leave it there.
[01:15:12] Speaker A: I kissed her and I didn't expect it to leave a mark.
[01:15:17] Speaker D: I did that to kimchi like once. And fortunately that means the child needed a full bath.
Yeah. Because it's like scales.
Yeah, yeah. And so it's like, oh crap.
Gotta wipe it like that.
[01:15:31] Speaker A: Yeah.
What, what time about do you, do you leave your house?
If all goes according to plan.
[01:15:40] Speaker D: If all goes according to plan. I feel like we should be out by six actually because it's a bath. Right. And I think this guy probably needs some time to like, I don't know, cry in the tub.
[01:15:54] Speaker C: Sure.
[01:15:55] Speaker A: Yeah.
Let's bounce back to Benjamin and Mion.
I think you had breakfast around like 9, 9:30.
[01:16:07] Speaker F: Yeah.
[01:16:08] Speaker A: Where are you headed next?
[01:16:10] Speaker F: Well, good.
[01:16:13] Speaker B: We are going to the Hawthorne Antiques.
[01:16:16] Speaker D: Oh,
[01:16:19] Speaker A: excellent.
You roll up.
I think at the exact moment that Lacy is being forced out of her own establishment by a child.
[01:16:35] Speaker B: I clock Lacy and I just sort of. There's just a noise that comes out of my throat and mouth. Ben. It's just like a.
[01:16:49] Speaker F: Are you making that noise because she is the store worker and leaving or you making that noise because it's Lacy.
[01:17:01] Speaker B: Is her name. Is her last name Haw.
[01:17:04] Speaker F: Yes.
[01:17:13] Speaker B: Well, we need to go there.
[01:17:17] Speaker F: All right, I'm going to talk to her. And Ben just strides forward, over to Lacy, leaving me on like back a few feet.
Hey, Lacy.
[01:17:29] Speaker E: Good morning.
[01:17:31] Speaker F: And Ben, now that he's clothed, you can see he's wearing basically like a button up shirt. Probably the exact thing I'm wearing. Putting up shirt overalls. Probably would have like a suit jacket if not just doesn't feel like wearing it in a long brim hat. And you see on his back there's like you've. We've been here a while, at least a week probably.
He's always carrying like what seems to be a carrying case, but it's in the shape of a coffin. And it's like. But not the size of a coffin. Smaller, something you'd fit like a small whatever in.
Sometimes it jingles when he jostles a little bit, but that doesn't matter.
But he walks up to you. Where you going?
[01:18:19] Speaker E: Coffee, I think.
[01:18:23] Speaker F: Yeah. Isn't the store closed? And he kind of looks past you,
[01:18:28] Speaker A: Benjamin. You see canary in the window.
And then she like does this gesture like eye to eye and then withdraws into the shadows of the store.
[01:18:41] Speaker F: He does a wave because that's a child. And he doesn't really get what's going on, but looks back at Lacy.
[01:18:49] Speaker E: I have been accosted by a small child and told to go where I'm supposed to be.
[01:18:54] Speaker F: Oh, I see that what the fuck does that mean?
[01:18:59] Speaker E: Great question.
I'm starting with coffee and then hoping the answer comes to me.
[01:19:04] Speaker F: Okay, well, outside of your store, the next place I've convinced me on the go is actually the coal mine.
I got a call at 5am about something or another.
[01:19:20] Speaker E: Okay.
Interesting.
[01:19:26] Speaker B: You didn't tell me that.
[01:19:28] Speaker F: Yes, I did.
You were mixing a cup while you were doing. While I was telling you.
[01:19:35] Speaker B: Figure so you didn't think to tell me as I was not busy doing something.
[01:19:38] Speaker F: Something I was going to tell you after this.
You're pretty good at being one track.
Okay,
[01:19:51] Speaker B: so we can't go into the shop because there's a child goblin in there?
[01:19:57] Speaker F: Yes.
[01:20:01] Speaker E: What do you need in the shop?
[01:20:06] Speaker B: Look at Ben and just sort of shrug. Shopping.
[01:20:11] Speaker F: Shopping. Ben doesn't look back like. Ben doesn't look at me and just looks back at you to kind of like. As like the. The beef. To reaffirm. Yeah. Shopping.
[01:20:21] Speaker E: Well, once I figured out wherever I'm supposed to be, I'm sure that the child will let.
I have the keys. I can get back in at any point. But coffee, I don't know. Figure out from there.
[01:20:36] Speaker F: Okay, well, I have a feeling it has something to do with whatever the hell's going on over at the coal mine, so get your coffee and let's be quick.
[01:20:49] Speaker E: Sure. Yeah. I don't know why I need to go to the cold mine or why I need it there, but sure. Yeah.
[01:20:55] Speaker F: Well, that child is. Is a canary, right?
[01:20:59] Speaker E: Yeah.
[01:20:59] Speaker F: Kind of feels like the most probable place for you to go if a canary is singing to you.
[01:21:09] Speaker A: Theoretically.
[01:21:09] Speaker E: Canary is singing. You want to take him down in the coal mine. It's when they stop singing that you want to get out.
[01:21:15] Speaker F: Yeah.
And then just kind of smiles at you.
[01:21:20] Speaker B: Mion, this entire time is attempting to decipher. Also, just above table.
Does Lacy recognize Mian?
[01:21:30] Speaker E: I would think I do, Right, Storyteller?
[01:21:37] Speaker A: No, I don't.
[01:21:39] Speaker E: Okay, then. Yeah.
[01:21:41] Speaker A: There's an air of.
[01:21:47] Speaker E: Familiarity.
[01:21:48] Speaker A: There's a feeling like a deadbolt clicking into place once you're in both of their company. Like you're supposed to be here. Like you've always been here. Like this is a familiar circle that you go through. And the patterns of your conversation feel like old rhythms.
But no, you don't really know Miyeon.
You've seen her around town because new people get noticed. When? Real quick.
But I don't think he's been formally introduced, per se.
[01:22:22] Speaker B: I'm. I'm just like, weirdly looking at you. Like,
[01:22:27] Speaker E: look at you a little confused and both of you a little confused and say yeah, I'm going to coffee shops right over there.
Yeah.
[01:22:40] Speaker F: Taking time.
[01:22:42] Speaker E: Do you have a car?
[01:22:47] Speaker B: Mion has a car. We're probably driving around.
[01:22:50] Speaker E: Yeah, I also have a car. So I was gonna give you all a ride if you didn't have a car.
[01:22:54] Speaker F: I'm assuming Ben drives the car.
Yeah.
We take you to the coffee shop and then over to the mines. But while you're. While you're in the coffee shop, I think the. And looks to Miss Daisy, the. As the driver and goes.
She doesn't seem to know you.
[01:23:17] Speaker B: Miss Daisy.
[01:23:18] Speaker F: You know, like Driving Miss Daisy.
It's a. It doesn't matter.
[01:23:26] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:23:31] Speaker B: I don't know.
I don't know why she doesn't know who I am. I really ruined that summer for her.
[01:23:41] Speaker F: Didn't you say that she's got like a boyfriend or something?
[01:23:52] Speaker B: Monstrous potential soul based connection.
And that was the reason that I dated her.
She felt naturally very betrayed and used.
You would think that you would remember someone.
[01:24:22] Speaker F: I think Ben reaches under the skin seat of the car and pulls out like, like, like a plastic binder of folders, individual folders that just kind of says VIP but like very important Personas. And pulls out a folder that has like a photo of Lacy and is like writing the things that Mion is saying into this.
[01:24:47] Speaker A: Aren't you driving?
[01:24:49] Speaker F: We're parked because we're inside.
[01:24:52] Speaker A: I had to point that out real fast.
[01:24:54] Speaker F: That would be so funny.
No, is right. Is in the car and then kind of closes it really quickly so that it's like, you know, not visible.
Well, clearly, I think while he's writing, he says, well, she clearly doesn't remember you and that might be important.
And then closes it.
[01:25:14] Speaker B: Who doesn't fucking remember me?
[01:25:17] Speaker F: So few people. Miss.
[01:25:24] Speaker B: Okay, let's figure this out then.
Honestly.
Perfect.
Don't have to deal with all the heartbreak and emotions.
[01:25:35] Speaker F: You would say that she's coming back.
[01:25:38] Speaker B: Okay, shut up.
[01:25:42] Speaker A: You all go to the mine next.
[01:25:45] Speaker E: I'm guessing so. Yeah.
[01:25:48] Speaker A: Yep. Great. Margaret, what's your day going? How's it going?
It's probably like where would you be around like 9:30, 10:00'?
[01:25:58] Speaker F: Clock?
[01:25:59] Speaker C: Yeah, I think that Margaret, you know, took her time getting ready. She's now wearing like sweater set, string of pearls, some knockoff designer jeans, and as a dutiful wife, she is bringing lunch to her spouse at their grocery store.
And after that planning to head to the mines because you know, between the call from the foreman and that text. It might be worth having someone sensible check it out.
[01:26:31] Speaker A: Certainly. And who is more sensible than Margaret Turkle.
[01:26:35] Speaker C: Exactly.
[01:26:36] Speaker A: Of the Turkle Mines, no less.
Yeah. You bring the lunch by the. The Mia's Grocer, which is what the store is called, named for your wife even.
And she gives you a kiss and takes a lunch.
She looks tired. She has.
Like.
She's not. Like there's some people in town who just look like they're just suffering all the time.
She's not one of them. She's someone who has never wanted but has never thrived.
And she takes a lunch gratefully and. And says.
Sorry to. Caught up so early.
I just needed to restock the freezer.
[01:27:35] Speaker C: Of course. Did you leave the window open by chance? No.
[01:27:40] Speaker A: You hate a chill.
[01:27:43] Speaker C: I do.
A moat got in when I woke
[01:27:47] Speaker A: up in the house.
[01:27:49] Speaker C: In the bedroom.
Tried to run off with my phone.
Jewelry too.
[01:27:57] Speaker D: Yeah,
[01:28:00] Speaker A: I mean, we can lock it or.
Oh, the.
What's her name? Ryan.
She has charms for that kind of thing. I don't know if they work.
[01:28:12] Speaker C: I'd rather not bring anything like that into the house, but it's fine. It turned out fine. I chased it down and I think Margaret sort of puts a hand on Mia's forearm and says, but you know, it would have been nice to have my big strong grocer there to chase it down for me.
[01:28:31] Speaker A: Well, next time, as long as it's not freezer day. I will see what I can do
[01:28:38] Speaker E: though.
[01:28:39] Speaker A: I mean, moats are scary. They're freaky, but they're not scary.
Leave something interesting out for him.
[01:28:52] Speaker C: I suppose with those hands they are able to operate a touchscreen.
[01:28:56] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. Probably why they want the phone.
What if you brought the phone back though, right?
[01:29:05] Speaker C: Oh yeah, of course.
[01:29:06] Speaker A: Cuz that would have been like one hell of a phone bill.
You just know they're going to be making collect calls.
I don't know how to speak though, because the face situation. But not for us to know.
[01:29:24] Speaker C: Probably best not to talk about it for too long. Yeah, just like anything in this town.
[01:29:29] Speaker A: Grocery store.
Can you imagine
[01:29:34] Speaker C: that? Wouldn't do for your stock.
[01:29:36] Speaker A: No.
[01:29:39] Speaker C: Well, I just wanted to swing by, bring you some food. I'm off to my work now, I suppose.
[01:29:45] Speaker A: Oh, when are you up to today?
[01:29:49] Speaker C: Oh, the foreman called, but you know how they are. It was very unclear what was actually happening. Didn't really say much.
[01:29:59] Speaker A: Why speak when you don't have to? You know, I bet the foreman hates phones.
[01:30:05] Speaker C: She could have just texted and actually described what had happened. But no.
[01:30:10] Speaker A: Do you think she knows how?
[01:30:14] Speaker C: I mean, little Addie lives with her. Like, surely she's taught him.
[01:30:19] Speaker A: Sometimes even with technically abled children. Children, skilled children, the.
[01:30:28] Speaker D: The.
[01:30:29] Speaker A: The parent doesn't quite learn the tech, but I don't know. I don't know.
I don't exactly have them over for cards.
[01:30:44] Speaker C: No. Well, it wouldn't be proper, really.
[01:30:52] Speaker A: He's not a good conversationalist.
What's the point of cards if you're not making conversations?
[01:30:59] Speaker C: True. Fair enough.
[01:31:02] Speaker A: Well, good luck. I. I hope for your sake that the little sprite's running around, because she. She talks more than foremost Forman.
[01:31:19] Speaker C: It would be nice to see her, I think.
[01:31:25] Speaker A: All right, well, I'll let you get on with your day.
Meet for dinner, of course.
[01:31:34] Speaker C: All right.
[01:31:35] Speaker A: And she kisses you again and sends you out the door.
[01:31:42] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:31:42] Speaker A: Probably like, sticks like a. Like a candy bar in your pocket and then rings it up after you leave.
It's extremely sweet.
[01:31:52] Speaker C: Margaret will not be eating it, but might you have to use it to bribe a child or something?
So, yeah, I mean, what is the scale of this town?
Is it like, walkable from my house to the mines, or is it like you'd want to take a car far?
[01:32:08] Speaker A: Your house is literally as far away from the mines as you can get. Yes. So it would probably be an hour walk to go from the your house to the mines.
Mia's is in Old Town Husk, which is on the minor side of the river, and that is probably like a 20 minute walk.
But you probably would have driven to Mia's because you got to go over the bridge, gotta go down the hill, and then you gotta go up the hill to get deeper into Old Townhousk, closer to the mine. Who wants to take a hill? They're big. It's a mountain.
You know how many stairs this little town has?
An absurd amount. It's too small for this many stairs.
And that's not even counting, like, house stairs and basement stairs and split level stairs.
[01:32:57] Speaker C: Lots of fun secrets below the basement stairs. But, yeah, I think that Margaret will just get back in her car and drive over to the mine.
[01:33:08] Speaker A: Maybe sort of.
[01:33:09] Speaker C: It's a little out of the way, like a street over, but swing by the foreman's place just to lookyou through the window, see if there's anything obviously wrong. I mean, they did say, like, it's not something wrong at the mines, it's something wrong at my place. Nice. But who can really parse all of that?
[01:33:27] Speaker A: That's so true.
Good question, Addison.
You left the house around six. Where did you go next? Did you go straight to the witch?
[01:33:38] Speaker D: Straight, straight to the witch. But like it like I went to the witch but like scenic routes that actually.
Because it doesn't run around a breakfast
[01:33:47] Speaker A: on your way there.
[01:33:48] Speaker D: Probably. Like I was like, I was like we had, we had a honey bun. But like also people respond to trauma so differently. You know, like sometimes they won't eat for a while. Sometimes all they can do is eat.
My trauma response just kind of changes every day. Right now we're really chill.
So.
Yeah, no, I think we're going to go, we're going to grab like like the equivalent of like a breakfast sandwich for breakfast wrap.
[01:34:19] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:34:20] Speaker D: Blow his mind that way. And then introduce him to an iced coffee and, and yeah. And then go straight to the witch. I might even pick up something for the witch.
[01:34:30] Speaker A: Sure. Yeah.
Plus it's a good, good opportunity to let Conrad see what's different about town now.
And he's like pointing out things. He's like, oh, that used to be this or that used to be be that or oh, that's still there.
[01:34:43] Speaker D: Weird.
[01:34:43] Speaker A: It looks the exact same.
And you make your way through the old town husk which is, it's the oldest part of Husk. It's the closest to what used to be called mining town.
It's got things like the town hall and like the library.
Mia's diners here. Mom's all day breakfast is here.
It's the, you know, it's the blue collar side of town and then you cross the river where things start to get a little bit more.
I don't think uppity applies because it's husk and really there's only one uppity house in all of Husk because they're the only ones who ever had enough money to be uppity. But the houses get better.
[01:35:33] Speaker B: They.
[01:35:33] Speaker A: This is what you would call the middle class, such as it was.
And so the houses are technically bigger here. They're old.
[01:35:42] Speaker B: All.
[01:35:42] Speaker A: Everything in Husk is old.
[01:35:44] Speaker D: Everything.
[01:35:44] Speaker A: Even the building that the Giant Eagle used to be in before it closed like six months ago.
Still old, but was Giant eagle for a hot minute.
So it's like these older style homes, some of them are like kind of Victorian style style. Some of them are a little bit more like like old town Pennsylvania kind of vibes.
And they're, they're bigger but they also are the ones that are like traditionally multi generational houses. So there's not a lot of people on this side of the river that live here alone. The exception is Ryan, the witch who inherited this house cannot keep it up, does not have the money, does not want to be in this house, but cannot get rid of it because of family curses.
And she sells charms, minor spells, divination, this sort of thing.
When you show up, probably it's getting close to like 7, 7:30 by the time you finish breakfast and your tour and stuff.
She was not ready for anyone to be here.
Like, she lives in the same house that she does work out of.
She comes to the door, she is still in her pajamas.
She has thrown on and like an outer. Like an outside coat as a pretend to be closed. But she's wearing, like, slippers and has a pattern on her pants of like sheep.
So it's very clear that she is not, not at all ready for the day.
Her hair is like a mess,
[01:37:28] Speaker C: and
[01:37:29] Speaker A: she looks at you and then goes, oh, my God.
Sorry. Sorry.
[01:37:37] Speaker B: That's the worst.
[01:37:39] Speaker A: My bad.
Hi.
[01:37:43] Speaker B: Good morning.
[01:37:44] Speaker A: It's so early. Did you know it's early? And also was like a new moon last night.
[01:37:51] Speaker E: So.
[01:37:52] Speaker A: So some people were off really late. Not that I'm mad to see you, because obviously not.
[01:37:57] Speaker D: I was gonna be like, damn, you were so mad. I would have to drink the second iced coffee right in front of you.
[01:38:02] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. I love you.
[01:38:05] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:38:07] Speaker A: I was already gonna let you in, but now you're, like, doubly in. Yeah. Who.
[01:38:11] Speaker C: Who?
[01:38:12] Speaker A: Friend.
[01:38:14] Speaker D: Yeah, new friend.
This is Conrad.
Conor Con.
I'm sorry.
[01:38:24] Speaker A: Conrad.
[01:38:25] Speaker D: Conrad. Okay. I got it for. Right the first. Okay, my bad. I was like, damn, I'm about being real weird here.
Yeah, this is Conrad. He's from the 1900s, and he just came out from the mines. So if you think your morning was early and. Yeah, so foreman wants a new charm because the air is off. And also, like, a whole guy popped out of the mines at the wrong time. So, like, if you got anything for him.
[01:39:01] Speaker B: Him.
[01:39:02] Speaker A: Yeah, that might be good. Yeah.
Interesting.
H. Okay, so.
So we'll come on in. First off, let's just get everybody in here and then you can have a seat.
Nothing.
I wasn't planning on opening today, and then I remembered later it's Friday, and then I thought, so I don't have to open, but I'm open. I guess I just have it cleaned. And the. The living room is like, a mess because I was doing rituals last night.
Okay. So just as an FYI. I know you know this because you've been getting charms from me for years, and especially recently, they're kind of less potent than they have been. I'm working on it. I thought maybe last night it would fix the problem, but. No, so.
So just keep that in mind. I'm going to whip up something for mind boy over there, and we're going to. We're going to have coffee and think about this.
[01:40:10] Speaker B: So.
[01:40:13] Speaker A: Yeah, you all have a seat and I'm going to go do my stuff and actually, just real fast. Addison, could you just walk with me for like, two seconds?
[01:40:27] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah.
[01:40:28] Speaker A: Morning steps, you know.
[01:40:29] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Morning steps.
[01:40:30] Speaker A: Conrad, you're good. You stay there.
[01:40:32] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:40:33] Speaker A: And she, like, walks you to the other room and then goes, not a neighbor, right? Like, that's not like a neighbor.
[01:40:40] Speaker D: No, I don't think so. I like. We. We were like, kind of trying to, like, suss him out, we think.
[01:40:45] Speaker A: I mean, I have a thing. Actually, you know what? I do have a thing. I have a thing to. I got it. I made it. I figured it out. So we can kind of tell, like, if they're like, flipped, you know. You know, people.
[01:40:55] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, that. That's easy. That's a. Yeah, that's what we thought at first, but, like, this is really off.
[01:41:03] Speaker A: Well, let's. Here, I'll give you the thing. Hang on. It's around here somewhere. And she, like, starts rooting through, like, it's in, like, this old victim Victorian style kitchen. And she's shoving, like, papers off of, like, the counter and, like, rooting through the cabinets, which aren't filled with much kitchenware and are mostly filled with, like, spells and stuff, and pulls out a compact mirror out of, like, a junk drawer. Okay, so this.
This will test if they're flipped around or not. And if not, great. If yes problems, but, like, normal problems. Just make sure that they don't catch you doing it. Because if they are flipped and they catch it at, you know, then, you know. Yeah, yeah.
And if they're not, then we can rule that out.
And I don't know.
It's never good when old things come out of the mines.
[01:42:02] Speaker D: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
[01:42:03] Speaker C: And.
[01:42:04] Speaker A: And this guy is old.
Like, he's the 1900s.
[01:42:09] Speaker D: Like, he's like a guy. We like, did the math like, on the way here. He should be like 100, like 30 or something.
[01:42:17] Speaker A: Damn.
Okay. Yeah. So you try to stealthily do the compact thing. I'm going to get the standard charm, and I'm going to try to, like, ju it up a little bit.
[01:42:29] Speaker B: Okay.
[01:42:30] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:42:31] Speaker A: Okay.
Great.
Go team.
[01:42:38] Speaker E: Go team.
[01:42:40] Speaker A: Yeah. And she's going to trundle off into another room to go work on stuff.
Are you going to try to test if Conrad is, in fact, flipped around?
[01:42:54] Speaker D: Absolutely. I'm gonna try and talk a bunch, basically, so I can do it subtly. But I'm gonna be so real, I genuinely don't really care that much if.
If the answer is, yeah, he's flipped, and then he catches me because, like, all the worst thing that's gonna happen is that I die.
[01:43:15] Speaker A: Sure. Sure.
[01:43:16] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:43:16] Speaker A: Yeah, that's true. Good point. That's a good point.
Then I won't make you roll for it. I'll make. I'll just. I'll just tell you straight up. I'll just tell you the answer straight up if you don't care about the consequences. He's not. He has not slipped around.
He's just. Oh, shoot. Just normal guy, kind of.
[01:43:38] Speaker D: Damn, you. Okay. Damn, you're. You're a real normal guy. Okay. And I just put it back in
[01:43:41] Speaker A: my pocket and he just kind of gives you, like, an odd look and then just gives you a thumbs up.
[01:43:50] Speaker D: You know, I just thought, you know, you were, like, flipped or something, so I was gonna run a double check, but, like, da man, you're like.
You're about as normal as someone in your circumstance could be.
[01:44:03] Speaker C: Sure.
[01:44:04] Speaker A: Hey, before your friend comes back, I was wondering.
Have we met before?
[01:44:16] Speaker E: No.
[01:44:18] Speaker A: No.
Is it.
[01:44:20] Speaker D: No.
[01:44:21] Speaker A: Is it possible that you've, I don't know, engage in a bit of sleepwalking or something like that?
[01:44:29] Speaker D: Hey, I.
Well, nah, I do something when I sleep, but it's not sleepwalking, sadly.
[01:44:39] Speaker C: All right.
[01:44:40] Speaker A: You just seem really familiar to me, but different.
Lively, walking around, but, you know, you don't know. I don't know. We've never met because that would be impossible because I'm from a different year with a gap. Big gap.
[01:45:03] Speaker D: Mm.
That's.
No, no, no, no, no, no, that's fine. I mean, yeah, that's fine, that's fine.
But, like, also, it's.
I wonder what the minds are cooking those. These. These mimes these days.
[01:45:21] Speaker A: Nothing good, definitely.
[01:45:29] Speaker D: Oh, you know, this house is, like, super cursed, this one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[01:45:34] Speaker A: Great.
[01:45:36] Speaker D: So, like, you know, don't move in because this is the witch's house.
[01:45:40] Speaker A: But, like, I would not.
[01:45:41] Speaker D: I mean. I mean, the witch is, like, super cool, but, like, it's just like this place is cursed, sadly. Family curse or something.
[01:45:51] Speaker A: You know what? 1. Workers,
[01:45:56] Speaker D: we gotta find you a place to stay. I don't know how comfortable you are with more miners.
[01:46:03] Speaker A: I. I Mean, I've been in the mining family and have been mining since I was 13. I. I don't know. As comfortable as you can get with them.
[01:46:14] Speaker D: Okay.
[01:46:15] Speaker A: Not yours, I guess. I don't know yours, but miners are.
[01:46:18] Speaker D: Well, yeah. No, no, no. I. I don't think.
I don't think this occupation has changed much at all.
At all. Maybe. Maybe equipment. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. A jackhammer is gonna. You up.
[01:46:32] Speaker A: Oh, that sounds like it. Yeah.
[01:46:35] Speaker D: Okay.
[01:46:36] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:46:36] Speaker D: Okay. Okay. Okay. You're gonna. You're gonna. Okay.
The gear, like, compared to, like,
[01:46:44] Speaker A: just
[01:46:44] Speaker D: like, what, a stick of dynamite and a dream.
The gear has improved.
[01:46:54] Speaker A: Do you still use canaries or has that been fixed
[01:47:00] Speaker D: above table? Do we still use canaries?
[01:47:02] Speaker A: I don't think so, because meters and stuff you use.
[01:47:05] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, that's what I was thinking. I was like, I don't think so.
[01:47:08] Speaker A: Okay. You also get, like, respirators and crap these days. They did not used to have those.
[01:47:13] Speaker D: Oh, of course not.
[01:47:15] Speaker A: You just get the black lung and that was your loss in life.
[01:47:19] Speaker D: Yeah. Like I said, stick a dynamite in a dream.
[01:47:22] Speaker A: Yeah. Yep.
[01:47:25] Speaker D: Nah, we don't use canaries anymore. I mean, I mean, I'm sure they're still around, but, like, we don't. We got like meters and shit.
[01:47:34] Speaker A: No, that's. That's good. I always thought they were sort of.
But I mean, we had the little, like, resuscitation to take swords on, which was nice, but that's only now there's.
[01:47:45] Speaker D: Now there's resuscitation for you to take when you go in there.
[01:47:50] Speaker A: Wow, this really is a whole new century.
Owners did not care about them back in those days, so I've heard.
[01:48:00] Speaker D: I mean, it's.
And that's great now either, you know, like, we. We tried unionizing like, twice or thrice for as long as I've been alive. It hasn't really worked out, but, like, I mean, baby steps, right? Because now they give us hats and, like, real good boots. I have a pair as well, but they don't fit me that well because I got, like, small.
And everybody else is massive in the minds.
[01:48:37] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah.
[01:48:38] Speaker D: Everybody. Everybody's like, super jacked. I want to get jacked.
[01:48:43] Speaker A: You know, there are better ways, probably, but, like, absolutely. Go for it. Go for it.
Yeah. And then Ryan comes back about then and hands you a little wooden triangle made out of sticks and,
[01:49:05] Speaker B: I don't
[01:49:06] Speaker A: know, a bottle, like an old glass Coke bottle that's just been stuffed with mysterious objects and then plugged with a cork all Right. That one is for Boreman. Usual. And then the bottle is for our. Our time guy over there.
So just smash the bottle somewhere close to where he popped out and that should solve your problem.
No, sorry. That should give you some answers. I don't know what the problem is yet, so I can't really tell you if it's going to solve it. It should just give you some insight. It's an insight. It's a bottle of insight.
[01:49:48] Speaker B: A bottle of int.
[01:49:49] Speaker D: Yeah, no, yeah, I figured. I figured. I figured you was. It was going to like, we just listen to you and, and like do what you tell us to do and it'll. It'll do the thing.
[01:49:57] Speaker A: Yeah, it. It'll make sense.
[01:49:58] Speaker D: You do it. Yeah, exactly. Exactly, exactly, exactly.
You got to trust the process.
[01:50:04] Speaker A: Yeah.
Just again, heads up. The charm is just not as potent as it used to be.
I did, I did try to amplify it, but you never know. I don't know what we're dealing with now, and it's just been a little
[01:50:21] Speaker D: sad these days, so maybe, maybe, maybe it just wants you to become an enterprise or something like that.
[01:50:26] Speaker A: Oh, God. Can you imagine?
Anyway, good luck.
[01:50:31] Speaker D: Thanks. Ryan.
[01:50:32] Speaker A: You were talking about the car company, right?
[01:50:37] Speaker D: You have a car company?
[01:50:39] Speaker A: No. Okay. You know what reference flew over our head? You said something. I didn't catch it. I'm not going to throw it back. You can just.
I got two hours of sleep. I'm going to go back to bed.
[01:50:50] Speaker D: Yeah, go back to bed, bestie. I'm. I'm out. I'm going to.
Let's go.
[01:50:56] Speaker C: Bye.
[01:50:56] Speaker D: Bye.
[01:50:57] Speaker C: Bye.
[01:50:58] Speaker D: Yeah, before we leave, like, as we're leaving, I'm going to jiggle the bottle a little bit.
See that? It's really weird, but it's like, like liquids and stuff. And then I'm gonna like hand it to comrade and be like, you want to hold on to your bottle of fluids?
[01:51:18] Speaker A: I don't know that I like the sentence thank you, but sure.
[01:51:25] Speaker D: I just fucking with you.
But it's like if you're more comfortable holding your potion, I can hold your potion too. But I don't know. It's your potion.
[01:51:35] Speaker A: I've got hands.
It's gonna hold onto the bottle.
[01:51:41] Speaker D: Now you got one.
[01:51:45] Speaker A: Funny.
And you are going where next?
[01:51:51] Speaker D: Probably back home because I want to drop off. Like, I mean, if he came out of the mines, then we'll go to the mines. But like, I just want to leave the. The charm at home because that's for my dad.
[01:52:02] Speaker A: You head back and welcome back Everything's going to be fine.
We have. We're slowly, slowly gathering around the mine, beginning with Azen and Conrad in tow, who probably made it to the mine just. Just a little bit before the new trio of Mion, Benjamin, and Lacy.
Do you do anything particular at the mine? You stopped by the house first, though, right?
[01:52:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[01:52:36] Speaker A: You dropped that off. That's good, because Charm.
[01:52:39] Speaker D: Charm needs to be in the house anyways, so it's better that the charm stays in the house.
And then, you know, we were given instructions to break this bottle over, like, close to the area where Karm came out of. So that is the mines. Yeah, just touching points, you know?
[01:52:57] Speaker A: Yeah. As you reach the entrance and, like, cross the threshold, Conrad, like, stops and, like, watches you cross the threshold.
It just stares at that for you for, like, a hot minute and then follows after you and, like, keeps. Sorry, cat hair. And keeps, like, just watching you out of the corner of his eye. Like, suddenly he's worried you're the neighbor
[01:53:23] Speaker D: and.
Dude, chill.
[01:53:26] Speaker A: No, sorry. Last time I was in here, something was trying to eat me. Or worse. The implication was worse. Actually eating sounded like maybe not the worst outcome. I don't know. I didn't stay around, ask for questions.
I'm frazzled. I didn't even say a sentence in the right order.
Either way, it's rough.
[01:53:47] Speaker D: Yeah. No, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That makes sense. I mean, if it. If it helps, I bet you. Tastes like potatoes.
[01:53:56] Speaker A: Wow.
[01:53:58] Speaker D: See, now your mind's on somewhere else. But how fucking rude I'm being.
[01:54:03] Speaker A: Incredibly.
What is with the gate here?
[01:54:10] Speaker D: The gate is there, right? For real?
[01:54:11] Speaker A: Zeus? Oh, yeah, yeah, there's a gate there. It's. It's, like, got enough electronic lock. It's got the little fluorescent bulb above it. Not fluorescent halogen. No, it does have a fluorescent bulb. Sorry, I forgot. It's got, like, a. Like a long fluorescent bulb hanging above it in one of those, like, little, like, metal brackets that you see at, like, workshops. So it's, like, pointed out towards the entrance as opposed to deeper into the mine.
[01:54:37] Speaker D: It's just like. It's an electronic gate, you know, we can control it from here, close it, open it.
[01:54:44] Speaker A: You can do that with electricity now?
[01:54:47] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You got to remind me to show you what my phone can do.
[01:54:54] Speaker A: The telephone, it does still call people, does it not?
[01:54:57] Speaker D: Okay, you ready? You ready?
[01:54:59] Speaker A: Ready? Bam.
What is that?
[01:55:02] Speaker D: This is a cell phone. And normally they look like this.
Bam.
And that's Astraea.
[01:55:11] Speaker A: And. Sorry, my girl.
[01:55:13] Speaker E: Hello?
[01:55:16] Speaker D: Just in case, because the art was shown. This Amihan.
[01:55:18] Speaker A: This is the Rose Cleric.
[01:55:20] Speaker D: Just because the art was showing, I'm like, I've got credit.
[01:55:23] Speaker B: One second.
[01:55:23] Speaker A: We gotta credit. We gotta credit our artists.
[01:55:25] Speaker D: Anyways, it's normally it looks like this. Bam. Like, just a full. It's like a full blank screen, and then you can, like, touch it and stuff like that.
[01:55:32] Speaker A: It came out of your pocket.
[01:55:34] Speaker D: Yeah, I can unpock it.
[01:55:35] Speaker A: It's not on a wall.
There's no wires. No. You don't have the little thing. You unhook and you put it in, and you call the operator and they connect you with who you're trying to call.
[01:55:47] Speaker D: I mean, like, you might see some around, but it's not that hard. It's not that many. Even then. Like, if there were wires in the wall, you just dial your number and you go straight. There's no middle guy.
[01:55:57] Speaker A: The operators are all out of a job now.
[01:56:00] Speaker D: The. The operators have moved on, and I hope that they're living great lives or they're dead.
[01:56:07] Speaker A: Fascinating. I'm so ready to go through the phone again in a moment.
[01:56:11] Speaker D: The phone does.
The phone does so much.
[01:56:15] Speaker A: Does the phone open the gate sometime?
[01:56:19] Speaker D: Like, if we had. Like, if this. I don't know if this gate has an app for it, because if so, then it has to be on the phone, the foreman's phone, and the foreman doesn't really know how to use the phone that well. So that means the foreman didn't set this up. And I feel like I should have done it then. But, like, if. But if he doesn't tell me, how am I gonna help him? But anyways.
Yeah, like, you could, in theory, like, open the gate through your phone and stuff, you know?
[01:56:46] Speaker A: Can you open this gate now? I came from further in. I'm not super sure how far in because it was pitch black.
And I was mostly being guided by memory and a weird voice in my head that I choose not to acknowledge.
[01:57:03] Speaker D: That's wild.
Yeah. Okay. Buff table. Actually, can I. Yeah.
[01:57:08] Speaker A: You have a key card?
[01:57:09] Speaker D: Yeah, I was gonna say I. I do. It's like. Yeah. Okay, now check this.
[01:57:14] Speaker A: You may not be a minor, but you are a minor at heart. And they got you key card access whether you're supposed to have it or not, as long as you know to be safe in there. So I have a prop for this.
[01:57:25] Speaker D: Okay. Now check this out.
Plot key card.
[01:57:33] Speaker A: Okay.
[01:57:33] Speaker D: Ready?
[01:57:34] Speaker A: I'm ready.
[01:57:36] Speaker D: I tap it or swipe it or however I have to get in.
[01:57:38] Speaker A: Yep. And there is a buzz, and the gate you hear the clunk of the gate unlocking.
That was amazing.
[01:57:47] Speaker D: I push it open like it's nothing. Like this weighs nothing.
[01:57:52] Speaker A: I have to make a deal that I'm not even sure if it was real or not. And I don't really know what I promised. That was incredible.
[01:57:58] Speaker D: That's heinous. I mean, I. I mean, like them making you make a deal to get out with your life. That's heinous.
[01:58:04] Speaker A: Better than whatever waiting in here. Speaking of, maybe we do that this part quickly.
Do you have a lamp or a lantern or something?
[01:58:16] Speaker D: Are the mines rigged with lights at this point? Like.
[01:58:19] Speaker A: Yeah, there's probably like electric lights that run down the main like shafts. And then once you get into like deeper areas or like more less established veins, then you kind of rely on headlamp a lot. But yeah, you know where switch switches.
[01:58:34] Speaker D: Yeah, I just go. I just go. Now check this out. Flip the switch.
[01:58:37] Speaker B: Bam.
[01:58:38] Speaker D: All the lights come on.
[01:58:40] Speaker A: That bloody voice said I couldn't even start a light. And they were there the whole time.
[01:58:47] Speaker D: But you wouldn't know, right? Because, like, we didn't have lights in the walls. Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. You wouldn't know that, like. Like I said, I know I was
[01:58:55] Speaker A: just being lied to.
[01:58:56] Speaker D: Yeah. No, that voice took full advantage of you. That sucks.
[01:58:59] Speaker B: Rude.
[01:59:00] Speaker A: So rude little voice.
[01:59:01] Speaker D: Rude voice. Nah, that voice. Anyway, I got beef with a voice. I don't know.
[01:59:07] Speaker B: You should.
[01:59:08] Speaker A: I do too.
[01:59:09] Speaker D: Yeah, let's be. Yeah, that voice we like
[01:59:13] Speaker A: you go into the mines deeper.
The Conrad isn't really leading you so much as like looking around for wherever he dug out of. And you find it after a handful of minutes.
There is an old shaft that had been collapsed many, many, many years ago and then sealed off so nobody could go back down that shaft ever again.
And now the seal is gone and there is a.
It looks like it was never caved in in the first place. It doesn't look like someone dug through it, but it certainly doesn't look like it was closed up anymore.
[01:59:57] Speaker D: And it wasn't like that for me.
Right, okay.
[02:00:01] Speaker A: Last time you were in here. No, this. This passage has been sealed off for longer than you've been alive.
[02:00:07] Speaker D: You came from here?
[02:00:11] Speaker A: Yeah. I mean, I was like digging, but suppose I must have opened it up
[02:00:19] Speaker E: more than I thought.
[02:00:20] Speaker A: It was pitch black. I could not see nothing.
[02:00:22] Speaker D: This thing's been sealed off since before me.
[02:00:27] Speaker A: Probably since I blew it up.
[02:00:29] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[02:00:31] Speaker A: An accident, by the way. It was not sabotage.
[02:00:33] Speaker D: Well, I mean, if it's to. To be fair, this.
It didn't look this nice either. Like, I mean, it looks.
[02:00:41] Speaker A: I mean it looks a bit like how it was some the last day I remember.
[02:00:50] Speaker D: That's so Saspra.
[02:00:53] Speaker A: I'm not super keen to go any deeper in. So maybe we do the bottle.
[02:00:57] Speaker D: I was gonna say. Can we just do the bottle thing?
Yeah, yeah.
I don't know what's in there either, Leon. Like. Like, I can take you pretty deep in, but like, not there.
[02:01:09] Speaker A: Not there. No.
[02:01:10] Speaker D: Ah, that was. That was literally sealed. Just do the thing here. Yeah, you're supposed to break the bottle here.
[02:01:15] Speaker A: He smashes the bottle against the support memes.
And that's probably about the time that Lacy and Mion and Benjamin arrive at the mines.
It is not open for business today, weirdly. Like, usually there's miners doing their thing, but it looks like for some reason the foreman did not open the mines today.
[02:01:41] Speaker F: Oh, well, that feels like even more of a reason to break the rules and go in.
[02:01:48] Speaker E: If you say so.
[02:01:50] Speaker A: Yeah.
[02:01:50] Speaker F: As we all get out of the
[02:01:51] Speaker A: car
[02:01:54] Speaker F: and walk towards.
Gate hole entrance.
[02:02:02] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. There's a bunch of stairs up into like, like a big wooden building and then it open. Like you go in there and there's the entrance to the mine past the entrance to the gate that's currently open.
[02:02:16] Speaker F: Oh, that can be good or bad. I think Ben, not being a fool, a silly little guy, walks to the entrance of wherever, like the deeper wherever this entrance is going and kind of whistles down the hole.
[02:02:36] Speaker A: Question, Benjamin, are you familiar with mine
[02:02:42] Speaker F: superstitions at all in general or here?
[02:02:46] Speaker D: Both.
[02:02:50] Speaker F: Are there monsters in the mines? Like, generally?
[02:02:54] Speaker A: There's plenty of ghost stories about mines.
[02:02:56] Speaker F: Just generally, maybe like one.
[02:02:59] Speaker A: Okay.
Yeah. I don't think it would occur to you what you are doing neon though. I feel like you probably would be familiar with the fact that it is very bad luck to whistle in a mine.
[02:03:12] Speaker B: I unfortunately know a lot of superstitions and purposely break them.
Always turn my back behind on the window.
Always keep hands wide open as I cross the street, you know, just to see what happens. So. Whoops.
So is Ben just about to whistle?
[02:03:33] Speaker F: Yeah, Ben's about to. Ben kind of like looks at the entrance, sees if, like, it's basically doing like hunter to see if, like, oh, did anyone walk in here? Yada, yada, yada. And he's like, I think someone's down there. There. I'm gonna.
[02:03:45] Speaker B: Hey, idiot.
[02:03:47] Speaker F: Yes.
[02:03:49] Speaker B: You don't whistle down cursed minds.
[02:03:52] Speaker F: Why not?
[02:03:56] Speaker B: I gesture delacy
[02:03:59] Speaker E: Cursed minds. It's always what I've heard. It's, you know, I don't know. And I'm standing probably about like five steps back behind every, the other two.
Mostly it's because it's like, okay, now I'm here. The. Am I supposed to do that, do here? I'm, I'm at a loss as to what I, what I am doing here.
[02:04:17] Speaker F: Okay.
[02:04:17] Speaker B: I, I think with that, like very sudden, kind of even surprising myself of like the reaction I'd like to read a bad situation.
[02:04:31] Speaker A: All right,
[02:04:38] Speaker B: 10 on the dice plus two. That's gonna be a 12.
[02:04:41] Speaker A: All right, we're starting off strong. Let's go.
Hold on, let me swap to the other sheet so I can remember everything you get here. So you get, you get to hold three because we don't have the advanced option yet.
So what's your best way in? What's your best way out? Are there any dangers you haven't noticed? What's the biggest threat? What's most, most vulnerable to you? What's the best way to protect the victims? Which in this case, probably yourselves.
Which three do you want?
[02:05:21] Speaker B: Are there any dangers we haven't noticed? Just right off the bat,
[02:05:27] Speaker A: yes, Ben does not get the whistle off, but you hear a whistle coming back from deeper in the cave.
[02:05:41] Speaker C: Two more.
[02:05:50] Speaker B: What's the best way to protect the victims?
Presumably us, maybe even just Lacy, who was seemingly the weakest person here, just by looking at her.
[02:06:04] Speaker A: The best way to protect the victims would probably be to not be here or to have enough information to deal with whatever this is, which could be staying here to gather information at the risk of life and limb.
[02:06:24] Speaker B: So generally just maintain an exit, Maintain, exit, stay together, don't be,
[02:06:37] Speaker A: don't, you
[02:06:38] Speaker B: know, don't be loud whistle, maintain your breathing, that sort of shit.
Yeah, that makes sense.
And also the two that I'm looking at are what's the biggest threat and what's most vulnerable to me, of course, Miyun is like what is the most, what can I actually handle? But I will ask what is the biggest threat?
[02:07:06] Speaker A: The biggest threat is further along.
I don't think you can see any signs of it except for the whistling that you hear and the follow up noise that is echoing around you in a way that makes it very difficult to place where it's coming from of like a sound of a sack of pennies shaken.
[02:07:50] Speaker B: I'm particularly interested in this neighbor. I think I like to keep track of the neighbors that I have heard of. The few times that I have been in town and just sort of see if I could conjure Mr. Sunshine just because.
Just to see what happens.
Again. By leaving hands unburdened Again. By looking people right in the eye and being impolite.
[02:08:33] Speaker A: Are you trying to summon Mr. Sunshine tears through the mind at the very moment?
[02:08:38] Speaker B: No, but I am thinking about might be a reason to come back around.
But I kind of. As I do my quick analysis, I turn to Lacy again. Again, whenever I turn to Lacy, I'm very much just like checking vibes of like.
[02:08:57] Speaker F: Does she.
[02:08:58] Speaker B: You remember me?
[02:08:59] Speaker A: You don't remember me.
[02:09:00] Speaker B: Okay, good. Fantastic.
Mr. Sunshine experienced before Ring a bell? Anything like that?
[02:09:13] Speaker E: Does it ring? I mean, I imagine like the. Or the little. The legend rings a bell to me. I don't think I have experienced it before.
[02:09:21] Speaker A: Well, that's up to you whether or not you ever felt yourself in a point in your life where talking to Mr. Sunshine seemed like a good idea.
[02:09:33] Speaker E: No, I don't think I've ever. At least I don't ever remember being that desperate.
[02:09:37] Speaker C: Yeah.
[02:09:40] Speaker E: Little first experience?
None particularly. I've never particularly found myself willing to play that game.
[02:09:56] Speaker B: What this means Ben, something's down there and was about to whistle back.
So we have a little echo friend waiting for us.
So we just need to be smart and we need to make sure that we are mapping out how to get back out of the mines. Exactly.
[02:10:15] Speaker E: You're going in there?
[02:10:17] Speaker A: Yes, we are.
[02:10:20] Speaker F: I don't know if you are. Looks at you up and down kind of as the weakest person here.
[02:10:27] Speaker B: Don't you have.
[02:10:33] Speaker E: Continue to look at you really confused.
[02:10:38] Speaker F: Do you have any protection?
[02:10:40] Speaker E: I pull out a pocket knife.
[02:10:42] Speaker F: Any better protection?
[02:10:47] Speaker E: No.
[02:10:48] Speaker F: Okay. Do you know how to use a gun?
[02:10:52] Speaker E: Theoretically.
[02:10:53] Speaker F: Okay. And Ben finally takes off the coffin shaped container on his back and puts it on the ground and opens it up.
If you look inside, I can describe it more. But you he by pulling it up like pulling it open away from you. You hear like a click and he pulls and he has like a. Like a pistol or like a small handgun, extends it towards you.
[02:11:19] Speaker E: Yeah, I mean, you know, we'll take it. I know basics of how to fire a gun.
So you know, take it and. And take a look at it just like to understand where everything is on it and sort of nod at you and say this seems like a real bad idea, but sure.
[02:11:45] Speaker F: Brass knuckles.
[02:11:48] Speaker E: I meant us going into the mine.
[02:11:50] Speaker F: Oh.
[02:11:51] Speaker A: Oh.
[02:11:51] Speaker F: Well, nothing as far as I'm aware, nothing in husk is a good idea.
A good idea. You should have moved away.
[02:12:00] Speaker E: I tried Unfortunate.
[02:12:03] Speaker F: And I think Ben is about to close the chaos casket, but then looks over to me, do you think.
How big of a problem do you think this thing is?
[02:12:20] Speaker B: Not sure.
[02:12:23] Speaker F: Not helpful. And he just closes the.
[02:12:26] Speaker B: Oh, prioritize. Making sure she gets out. At least if anything happens.
[02:12:32] Speaker F: Okay, then I will stay conscious.
And he like closes this, locks it and puts it back on his back after taking out the brass knuckles for himself.
[02:12:42] Speaker D: Yeah.
[02:12:43] Speaker A: As you do, you hear something shatter down deeper down the passageway, sounding like a glass bottle shattering.
And Margaret, it's probably about the time that you have rolled up to the mine, Margaret, you did not see anything at the foreman's house, by the way. You saw the foreman was home, which is weird.
And then you get to the mine and you see that they are not operating today, which is weirder. But that's it.
[02:13:14] Speaker C: But did the last group leave the gate open?
[02:13:17] Speaker A: Yeah. Yep.
[02:13:18] Speaker C: So Margaret is sort of taking mental notes of things to bring up to the foreman next. We thought, because this is really quite unacceptable.
But as she is approaching, I think she also pulls out her phone and that picture and it was very pixelated. So I don't think that I'll get a hit, but. But it's just sort of trying to triangulate, like, does it seem like this hand was on the background of the mind grounds?
[02:13:52] Speaker A: Could have been, yeah.
Hard to be sure. But it could have been hard to be sure.
[02:13:58] Speaker C: So maybe it's nothing.
And with completely unearned co. Confidence will enter into the minds.
[02:14:12] Speaker A: How superstitious is Margaret as someone who has lived here a long time and has a very personal connection to the reason the town exists.
[02:14:26] Speaker C: Yeah. I think that she is quite superstitious.
Certainly knows the superstitions and generally follows them.
[02:14:41] Speaker A: There are pennies on the ground.
Not a bunch, just like one, two, cluster over there of three old pennies. These are not new pennies. These are.
They look like they have been through the wash 12 times for 16 years.
And they're just
[02:15:10] Speaker C: old.
[02:15:12] Speaker A: The date on them is old.
[02:15:19] Speaker C: I know because of my text that I have apparently made some sort of deal, or maybe someone wants me to think that I've made some sort of deal.
And so I will continue on.
But I think that she is more alert than before, keeping an eye out on shadows, seeing if there are any more signs of Mr. Sunshine.
[02:15:56] Speaker A: Do you want to investigate a mystery?
[02:15:59] Speaker C: Sure, I can investigate a mystery.
That is a. Unless I have a negative character sheet.
Hell yeah. That is an 1111.
[02:16:14] Speaker A: So you get a whole two of the following questions. What Happened here? What sort of creature is it? What can it do? What can hurt it? Where did it go? What was it going to do? And what is being concealed here?
It's a lot of energy, but that's what you get.
[02:16:33] Speaker C: I think I would certainly like to start with what is being concealed here.
[02:16:47] Speaker A: This is not a neighbor.
[02:16:56] Speaker C: Interesting. Okay.
That seems worse.
It seems worse that someone would be playing with superstition like this.
And I think because she realizes that it wasn't a neighbor, she feels empowered to look around and try to figure out, where did it go?
[02:17:21] Speaker A: Deeper in, past the light.
[02:17:28] Speaker C: Great.
[02:17:29] Speaker A: In fact, there is a passageway here that has been closed off for centuries. Well, at least one open last you knew, because I would imagine someone of your stature would be well versed in the history of your mind.
There was an explosion in 1919, and the passage was shut down. Then you're pretty sure that your ancestor of the day was probably part of the shutting down in a. In a permanent way.
This passage was not sealed exclusively through mundane means.
There was blood spots filled here on
[02:18:25] Speaker F: purpose,
[02:18:28] Speaker C: and now it's open again. And if it needs to be closed, that is my responsibility.
Find the blood that would need to be spilled for that. So I will follow deeper into the passage.
[02:18:43] Speaker A: Yeah.
[02:18:45] Speaker D: Addison.
[02:18:46] Speaker A: Conrad smashes the bottle at the entrance, and there is.
Have you ever seen soot tags?
They're like. They look like spider webs, but blackened. And they form after a fire has happened in a room because it. Like, if there's a lot of plastics that can burn.
[02:19:08] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[02:19:09] Speaker A: They can collect, and they form spontaneously.
You see what resembles that, just, like, burst out of the bottle, wrap around Conrad, and then strings just shoot out in various directions before the whole thing just bursts into flame and then vanishes.
And then after that, you hear echoes of.
Of an argument that you. Voices you don't recognize. You hear a masculine voice saying, just keep digging. We have to up the profits.
And you hear someone else pushing back, saying, no, the gas is too much. We're gonna have an explosion here.
It doesn't sound like Conrad. You don't recognize either voice.
And then there is a name or a word or a feeling, but the word that comes to mind is serenity.
And then Conrad is yanked into the darkness.
[02:20:33] Speaker D: Like, yanked. Like, yanked, yanked. Oh, my goodness. Like, do I see anything pull them or, like.
[02:20:39] Speaker A: Like, with show off of the stage?
[02:20:41] Speaker C: Just
[02:20:44] Speaker A: a real yoink. Yes, a real yoink.
[02:20:46] Speaker D: And I just.
I think I stare in shock for a little bit because I was not expecting a yoink. I was listening.
And now I debate really hard if I'm gonna go in or not.
[02:21:06] Speaker A: Do you want to read a bad situation?
[02:21:09] Speaker D: Yes.
What am I rolling for?
[02:21:14] Speaker A: That one second. Sharp.
[02:21:16] Speaker D: Sharp. That's what I was thinking.
[02:21:19] Speaker E: Okay.
[02:21:20] Speaker D: Okay.
Seven.
Yeah. Plus one. Seven.
[02:21:29] Speaker A: Nice.
So you can hold. One question.
What's your best way in? What's your best way out?
Dangers you haven't noticed. What's the biggest threat?
What's most vulnerable to you? And what's the best way to protect the victims?
[02:21:52] Speaker D: What's the best way to protect the victims? Victims, I guess, in this case will be Conrad.
[02:21:57] Speaker A: Would be Conrad.
[02:21:58] Speaker C: Yes.
[02:21:58] Speaker D: Excuse me.
[02:22:02] Speaker A: You have a feeling in your gut that comes from not this. Having. You haven't lived this situation before yet, but you have.
You.
[02:22:17] Speaker B: There.
[02:22:17] Speaker A: There is just a vision. There's a vision. You get visions, and you got one of, like, a shadowy entity being just shattered and a bunch of miners collapsing, but alive and free.
You have to deal with the entity if you want to protect him.
[02:22:50] Speaker D: If I look at my phone. What time is it?
Like 10 in the morning, right?
[02:22:56] Speaker A: Yeah, I got time.
[02:23:00] Speaker D: Look at my phone.
Are we too deep in the minds where it's, like, now? Like. Like if I send a text, it's not gonna get sent?
[02:23:08] Speaker A: You're like, yeah, I think so. But also, there are footsteps coming towards you. And there are people. People in the opening to get back out. Like the.
[02:23:19] Speaker D: The.
[02:23:19] Speaker A: Of the.
The. The. The shaft. The new shaft, the one that's been uncovered. There's people in that opening.
[02:23:32] Speaker D: Wait, am I. Am I not standing in front of that shaft?
[02:23:35] Speaker A: Yeah, you're like, right.
[02:23:36] Speaker D: I'm right in front of it.
[02:23:37] Speaker A: Yeah, you're like, not very. It's like you turn around and there's just standing there.
[02:23:40] Speaker D: Okay.
[02:23:41] Speaker A: They're very close to you.
[02:23:42] Speaker D: Very, very close. Okay.
[02:23:43] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There's like a foot or two apart from you at most.
[02:23:47] Speaker D: Okay, then I guess before. Before, like, you know, if I can do this, like, quickly or behind my back or something, I am just going to summon my special weapon.
[02:23:59] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah.
[02:24:03] Speaker D: So from the.
From the ground, from the earth, it kind of pushes upward until a handle is, like, kind of protruding from the ground for me to pull it out, pick it up, and it's a pickaxe, but it's. It's a very, like.
I think from like, a distance, it looks like a regular old pickaxe.
Up close, this is a nice mixture of steel, red, earth, and bone all. All in one cute little gecko. And the ground's Gonna go back to normal. And I'm just gonna hold the pickaxe, like I brought it with me from home or something, and wait for these people to come because they're. They're clearly real close, and they're headed towards my direction, so they should be able to see me.
[02:25:07] Speaker A: And they can.
[02:25:09] Speaker F: Yeah, I think. I think as I turn the. I turn a corner, I walk down, and I see you holding a weapon, and then with a brass knuckle, starts running towards you to punch you in the face and then realizes. Oh.
So, ladison.
[02:25:25] Speaker D: Yeah. What the you doing in these mines?
[02:25:28] Speaker E: A great question.
[02:25:29] Speaker B: What are you doing?
[02:25:31] Speaker D: Well, I live over there.
[02:25:33] Speaker B: You don't live in the mines, idiot.
[02:25:36] Speaker D: I live nearby.
[02:25:38] Speaker F: She is the foreman's kid, so.
[02:25:40] Speaker D: Yeah, foreman Junior.
[02:25:45] Speaker B: I don't think that's what it means.
[02:25:47] Speaker F: What, did you break a bottle?
[02:25:50] Speaker D: But, like, because we were doing magic and. And something just pulled my friend into the mines here, into this new little area, so I was gonna go get him
[02:26:01] Speaker F: to you okay, sure.
[02:26:06] Speaker A: I'm gonna need to also act under pressure.
[02:26:09] Speaker F: Sick.
[02:26:09] Speaker A: Except for Mercury, who's not quite here yet, but soon.
Privilege.
[02:26:15] Speaker D: Does he need to act under pressure?
[02:26:18] Speaker B: Weird question.
Is anything about to alter the environment around me?
[02:26:23] Speaker D: Yes.
[02:26:24] Speaker B: I don't need to act under pressure for this.
[02:26:27] Speaker A: Cool as a cucumber.
[02:26:32] Speaker B: And I get. My armor becomes two stellar.
[02:26:37] Speaker A: You're gonna need that.
[02:26:38] Speaker E: I got a four mark experience.
[02:26:44] Speaker D: 10.
[02:26:45] Speaker A: 10. Excellent. Excellent.
[02:26:49] Speaker B: You're muted, buddy.
[02:26:52] Speaker F: Now, I was like, do I have any. Cool. I don't. I got a three.
[02:26:58] Speaker A: All right. All right. So we have two solid successes and two not so successes.
The.
The mineshaft. The ground just opens up, and you look down and see.
It's hard to see what the figure is, but there's a figure of a man.
Except any details are obscured by
[02:27:29] Speaker C: a
[02:27:29] Speaker A: headlamp of some kind.
Or at least there should be a light there. But, like, it's like trying to perceive a negative. You just know that's what should be causing the issue. But there's no actual light. But there's no darkness either. Something else.
And then grabs Lacy and Benjamin by the legs and yanks them into the earth.
What do you want to do?
[02:27:53] Speaker E: Scream?
[02:27:54] Speaker A: Yeah, that's good. What else do you want to do?
[02:27:59] Speaker B: I'm going to use magic. I would like to use magic, all right.
[02:28:05] Speaker A: Trying to achieve.
[02:28:06] Speaker B: Specifically create kind of like the. The mind, the brain. The thing that I want to be able to conjure is something with which I can get them both back. But if I have to Prioritize one of them. It's going to be Ben.
And so all around me is earth and coal and some kind of metal or something along those lines. So I just want to almost alchemically surge these pieces together and get lassos or get some kind of hold onto them to maintain them in their place.
[02:28:46] Speaker C: Sure.
[02:28:49] Speaker A: Roll.
Use your magic.
[02:28:55] Speaker B: That is an eight.
[02:28:57] Speaker A: An eight.
So you get an effect and you get a glitch.
Yes.
I'm not gonna read them because there's a bunch.
Yeah, yeah.
[02:29:17] Speaker B: So I believe. I don't know if trap or bar is the specific wording, but again, ideally, I would be.
I don't even know what the exact. What did I see grab Lacy and Ben?
[02:29:34] Speaker A: Did I.
[02:29:34] Speaker B: If I. At all.
[02:29:36] Speaker A: A person? Kind of.
It looked like a person, except for you couldn't really make out any of the details. It felt like you were being blinded by a light that you could not see, but you did get the impression of a person.
[02:29:55] Speaker B: Are they grabbed by long arms?
[02:29:59] Speaker A: Hard to tell. Probably hard to tell.
[02:30:02] Speaker B: Okay. I think the only thing that I can think of in the moment, then, is to again conjure these earthen lassos that hold on to Lacy and Ben.
[02:30:12] Speaker F: You grab one of us or both of us. You got an eight.
[02:30:15] Speaker B: I don't know what happens with the eight.
Right.
[02:30:18] Speaker A: So you can choose your glitch, and depending on what you choose, will determine whether or not you get them both.
[02:30:24] Speaker B: The magic draws immediate, unwelcome attention.
[02:30:27] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely.
You manage to lasso them both.
I think due to the. The nature of the spell, they aren't yanked back out, but they are, like, trapped in place. So they can't go deeper, but they will have to pull themselves out.
But you do attract immediate, unwelcome attention, which comes in the form of this random dude coming out of nowhere with a pickaxe, swinging it at your head.
[02:30:56] Speaker F: I would like to.
Can I roll to protect someone?
[02:31:00] Speaker A: Yes, absolutely. This is a great time to do that.
[02:31:04] Speaker F: So I have never again. So I don't need to roll. I get a. I automatically get a 10. But I. I cannot choose to suffer little harm.
[02:31:12] Speaker A: Okay.
[02:31:14] Speaker F: So am I either would like to get Lacy out or protect me on. But it doesn't. It seems like I'm restrained.
[02:31:25] Speaker A: Yeah. So kind of Lacy Z.
[02:31:27] Speaker F: That's fine.
[02:31:28] Speaker A: I will let you through to the nature of your ability. Protect me on here.
It's just going to.
I think I'm going to make you draw a card for it as well.
[02:31:38] Speaker F: Oh, yeah. I mean, what I. I mean, the fun Thing that I would. That I, like, would have done, had me on, only been able to grab one, is like, get Lacy out and let myself be yanked.
But seeing that Mian is being attacked, I would. Yeah, I'll do the thing that you said.
[02:31:57] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you get to pick your extra. That other than suffer little harm. And. Do you want to roll a card or do you want me to draw a card?
[02:32:06] Speaker F: Oh, no, I cannot. Oh, I cannot choose suffer little harm. I'm. I'm always.
[02:32:10] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, sorry. That's what I was saying.
[02:32:12] Speaker F: You're good.
[02:32:12] Speaker D: Anything.
[02:32:13] Speaker A: Except for that is what I meant.
[02:32:14] Speaker F: Gotcha.
[02:32:15] Speaker A: Looking at the move, all impending danger is now focused on you. You inflict harm on the enemy or you hold the enemy back.
[02:32:22] Speaker F: I would like to. I choose an extra. Do I just choose one of these?
[02:32:27] Speaker A: Yes, you pick one.
[02:32:28] Speaker F: That's fine. I would like to.
I guess two for one, because that's probably good. I want all the impending danger to be focused on me.
[02:32:37] Speaker A: Easy.
And then. Do you want to draw a card or do you want.
[02:32:41] Speaker F: Of course you can, cuz I don't. Yeah, you do it.
[02:32:47] Speaker A: Let's see what we got.
Interesting.
We have drawn the deer in the road again.
[02:32:59] Speaker F: Nice.
[02:33:00] Speaker A: So this is a moment of indecision, but I think for you, I can scroll through these cards.
Mouse. Gosh dang it.
There you are.
I think for you, this is a moment of rootedness, communion, and liberation.
How do you direct the attention onto you?
[02:33:26] Speaker F: Yeah, so I think I pick up, like, a stick or like a rod or something, like something that's on the floor here. And I just kind of chuck it at the man, the person, the pickaxe that was going to attack me on. And I just kind of say, hey, come over here.
[02:33:44] Speaker A: Yeah, you see this young guy get clobbed in the head and just sort of like.
Like the head snaps with it, but it doesn't actually seem to, like, show pain on his face. His, like, face is very slow, slack, and his eyes are, like, moving like crazy. Like he is looking at all of you. Like he is terrified out of his mind.
Addison, this is super Conrad.
[02:34:10] Speaker B: This.
[02:34:10] Speaker A: I don't know why I said super. This is Conrad.
Okay, that's absolutely Conrad. He does not look in control of his body.
[02:34:20] Speaker D: Like he, like. Okay, wait, wait. He doesn't look like he's in control of his body, but does it look like he's there? There, like.
[02:34:27] Speaker A: Yeah, it looks like he's there and not enjoying the experience.
[02:34:30] Speaker D: Okay. And I.
Okay, I'mma jump in and go Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy, buddy. Hey, hey. Stop that. Stop. Snap out of it. Come on, come on, come on.
[02:34:43] Speaker A: Yeah, he's going to swing.
As Margaret walked into this situation.
[02:34:52] Speaker C: Yeah. Do you. Oh, sorry. Go ahead.
[02:34:55] Speaker E: I was like. Can I have, like, pull myself out of this situation?
The ground, or.
[02:35:00] Speaker A: Yeah, I think because of both being halted from being dragged in deeper, and because all of the violence is being focused in on Benderman right now, you have enough time that you're able to wrestle yourself out of this, like, iron lasso and crawl back onto solid ground out of the.
[02:35:18] Speaker C: The.
[02:35:18] Speaker A: The hole. The perhaps endless hole. You don't want to know. It's dark down there, and you don't know how deep it goes.
Is there something else you would like to do?
[02:35:28] Speaker E: I have no idea what's going on.
[02:35:39] Speaker B: Can I scream at you something really quick? Aubrey, Is that okay?
[02:35:43] Speaker E: Sure. Yeah.
[02:35:46] Speaker B: As soon as a man comes at me with a pickaxe, I look at you, Lacy, you know, getting out of the lasso, and I just sort of yell, get your fucking boyfriend.
[02:35:57] Speaker E: And I just look at you incredibly confused and say, what?
[02:36:08] Speaker A: While you're contemplating that, Margaret, you walk into a tunnel that should be sealed with both metal and blood, and you find a whole host of random people here. Most of them are townsfolk. Two of them are the two newcomers who are just wandering through, causing problems. I guess there's some kid you've never seen in your life swinging a pickaxe at people, looking terrified, but doing it anyway. And none of them should be in your mind. Maybe Addison. But mostly none of them.
The one kid at least looks like a minor.
[02:36:46] Speaker B: No.
[02:36:46] Speaker A: No, he doesn't anymore because he's dressed in somebody else's clothes. So nobody looks like they belong here, except maybe Addison, but definitely not in this shack.
What you doing?
[02:36:55] Speaker C: Yeah, I mean, I recognize four out of five of these people, and blood must be spilt.
So I am going to just hang back a little bit, stay in the shadows and watch. I think that Margaret has a knife, which she sort of takes out of her giant.
She carries a bag. It is a knockoff, but very well done.
And she pulls out a knife with some fun little symbols on the blade and is just going to hold back, but bearing a knife in her hand in case anyone comes towards her.
Yeah.
All right.
[02:37:58] Speaker A: Benjamin, you're about to get attacked again. What are you doing?
[02:38:02] Speaker F: Yeah, to be clear, so I'm being grabbed by something that isn't Conrad.
[02:38:06] Speaker C: Correct.
[02:38:07] Speaker A: There is, like, a metal lasso that is holding you and keeping you from lunging into however deep this hole is.
But you would have to pull yourself out of the lasso to get back onto something. So right now, you're just kind of hanging out in a seatbelt the opposite.
[02:38:21] Speaker F: Opposite direction. I would like to let the seat belt take me to wherever it's trying to take me.
[02:38:27] Speaker A: Okay.
You will still have to release yourself from it, because that's Mion's doing, keeping you from going anywhere, I think. Yeah, but you want to plunge into the undead.
[02:38:37] Speaker F: Yeah, I would love to plunge. And I say, mion, do you have any sleep stuff?
[02:38:43] Speaker B: You said? Sorry, what did you say?
[02:38:44] Speaker F: Do you have any sleep stuff?
Probably toss me some and let me go.
[02:38:55] Speaker B: Okay, well, I don't have anything.
[02:38:57] Speaker F: Like, immediately toss me some and let me go.
[02:39:05] Speaker B: Can I use magic to create a sleep potion immediately?
[02:39:10] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. You can try to do that.
[02:39:14] Speaker B: Oh, for my. Oh, I completely didn't even think about that. No.
[02:39:17] Speaker F: Yeah.
[02:39:17] Speaker B: I. I'm only thinking about magic right now, dude.
[02:39:20] Speaker C: So
[02:39:22] Speaker B: sorry.
[02:39:24] Speaker A: Dramatic piano.
[02:39:27] Speaker D: I sound like a gong to me. I was like, aspiration of you, Neon.
Can I. While Neon's doing this, can I yell something? Because this is yelling. Can I yell too?
[02:39:35] Speaker A: Yeah, absolutely. Everyone can yell.
[02:39:38] Speaker D: Ah, we gotta kill the entity.
Kill the entity. The people. Yep.
[02:39:48] Speaker B: Rolled a seven.
[02:39:50] Speaker A: Okay, so once again, you get a glitch and you get an effect. We know the effect. What glitch do you want? Is it weakened? Is it short duration? Do you take harm immediately? Do you draw more immediate, unwelcome attention? Or do you have a pro problematic side effect?
[02:40:06] Speaker B: I'll take the harm to game it because I have two armor right now.
[02:40:09] Speaker A: You do not. This is one harm. Ignore armor.
[02:40:13] Speaker B: Understood. Got it.
[02:40:14] Speaker F: I think you should have a problematic side effect of putting me to sleep longer than I would like to be.
[02:40:21] Speaker B: No.
[02:40:21] Speaker F: Oh.
[02:40:23] Speaker B: So I. I think literally, what comes out just like, again, conjuring the magic that I, Mion, has, it's just making something out of something, Something that she already has or is already president or is already present. So misunderstanding you completely. Like, she probably takes out an Ambien, and then, like, what comes out of it just becomes like, some strange, like, potion thing.
And then I don't know how the harm takes effect.
But
[02:40:55] Speaker A: what does it cost you to do magic?
[02:41:03] Speaker B: I think there are just horrible sad memories and sad surges, like little chemical blips that go into my brain of things that I don't remember were there, and I want so badly for them to come back.
[02:41:20] Speaker A: You are Accosted by a memory of standing on a cliff and you know there's more to it and it leaves you weeping and empty and does not give you the rest.
Just the end.
[02:41:43] Speaker B: Fall to my knees.
[02:41:48] Speaker A: Benjamin is dropping into the abyss.
What are the rest of you doing here? Mian is weeping or at least on her knees.
[02:42:01] Speaker C: Is Conrad still attacking or moving to attack anyone else?
[02:42:06] Speaker A: Yeah, I guess that since Benjamin swept out of you, Conrad is going to come up and whirl on the next closest person, who is probably. Probably Addison.
[02:42:19] Speaker C: Well, Benjamin was the second most person I did not want to be attacked, and Addison is the first most person I do not want to be attacked.
So I think that this is the point where Margaret comes out of the entryway of this.
And she is not a physical fighter. She is dressed in her, like casual Friday, but still better than you best, but she is holding a knife and she is going to attempt to lunge at Conrad.
[02:42:59] Speaker A: Okay.
All right.
[02:43:06] Speaker C: Bookkeeping.
So kick some ass.
[02:43:14] Speaker A: Yes. Yes. It is.
[02:43:21] Speaker C: Eight. Minus one is still seven.
[02:43:23] Speaker A: Okay.
Hey. That is all you need, actually.
You both inflict harm on each other, it is going to be for harm from Conrad with a pickaxe. Unless you have armor to mitigate that.
[02:43:38] Speaker C: I sure don't.
[02:43:39] Speaker A: How much damage does your knife do?
[02:43:44] Speaker C: It does a hot one Damage. It is magic. It is magic damage.
[02:43:48] Speaker A: Magic is important. Magic is important.
Yeah.
[02:43:54] Speaker C: So I don't know if this actually applies, actually.
Okay. I have this fun move called personal safety.
[02:44:03] Speaker A: Yeah, you do.
[02:44:04] Speaker C: Aki and Aubrey know it well.
[02:44:07] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, we do.
[02:44:09] Speaker C: But the wording, which I should have been better at, the wording is specifically once per session. The consequences of a miss will be suffered by another hunter. This is not a miss. This is a partial success. Okay, So I have to take it. All right.
[02:44:25] Speaker A: That is the wording that you put in there.
[02:44:30] Speaker C: Okay. I am, you know, not great.
[02:44:34] Speaker A: How. How bad is not great?
[02:44:36] Speaker C: I mean, I have no armor, so I'm unstable.
[02:44:39] Speaker A: That's what I was wondering.
[02:44:41] Speaker C: Yeah.
[02:44:45] Speaker A: Excellent. I mean, not for you, but just generally speaking.
One second, please.
Yeah, yeah. So you just take the. You take the pickaxe, like, to your.
Your shoulder, and it just digs in. Blood is absolutely getting spilled for sure.
[02:45:08] Speaker C: It's not supposed to be my blood.
[02:45:12] Speaker A: It's the workers.
Well, aren't you, in a way, a worker?
But yeah. That's gonna bring us to Addison or Lacy.
[02:45:27] Speaker D: Do you want to go first, or you want me to go first?
[02:45:31] Speaker E: I. I can go first. Because my. My first question is, should I roll Something to just keep my together because it's. Yet again, it's like. Even if I have dealt with these things before, I don't remember dealing with things like this before. So it feels like this is all new to me.
[02:45:47] Speaker A: If you feel that you need to act under pressure, you absolutely can. You can also draw for it, if you prefer.
[02:45:54] Speaker E: Let's draw for it.
[02:45:55] Speaker A: Let's draw for it. You want to roll it or you want me to.
[02:45:59] Speaker E: You roll it.
[02:46:01] Speaker C: Wheel.
[02:46:02] Speaker B: What are the conditions to draw a cardigan?
[02:46:07] Speaker A: You get to.
Oh. Oh, interesting choice. You get to mark an experience, and then you and I determine the outcome based off of it. And also I mark a little thing on the background for me, or.
So interestingly, I drew the mines for you, which feels appropriate given where we currently are.
That is number 19. I thought so.
Which is gonna be the mines?
The upright is toil, sacrifice, collection. The reverse is abundance, gathering, reaping. Prosperity comes at a cost. Always paid in coin or pay it in blood. In strong hands and clear lungs and hours of daylight and hours of love.
[02:47:01] Speaker C: So how.
[02:47:04] Speaker A: How well do you feel like you're keeping it together?
[02:47:12] Speaker E: Honestly? Probably not great, but I don't think I'm running. I think I'm just going to. We're going to deal with the breakdown later.
[02:47:20] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. It feels.
It feels like you can have this, but it's gonna cost you something.
[02:47:27] Speaker E: Yeah. Yeah.
[02:47:29] Speaker A: But we don't have to pay that price just now.
[02:47:33] Speaker E: Price for later.
And you know what? I'm going to reap what I sow, and I'm going to attempt to put myself between or at least either.
Probably shove Addison out of the way so that whatever attack is coming her way, either I'm gonna take or it's gonna hopefully miss.
[02:48:03] Speaker A: All right, maybe.
Maybe you do sacrifice right now.
Yeah. So this feels like a move to protect someone.
So go ahead and roll me. That plus tough.
[02:48:26] Speaker E: So there's a nine minus one for an eight.
[02:48:28] Speaker D: Eight.
[02:48:29] Speaker A: You protect them. Okay. But you all suffer some or all the harm they were going to get.
[02:48:34] Speaker D: So
[02:48:37] Speaker A: that was going to be four.
Harm to.
[02:48:41] Speaker C: Typically.
[02:48:42] Speaker A: What do you do to protect Addison here?
[02:48:48] Speaker E: I do think it is a literal seeing it coming, and my initial plan is to shove them out of the way so that the attack would miss both of us.
It's just I.
Convers are not a great shoe to wear in mines where you need traction. I kind of slip as I'm doing it. I. But I put myself between the. This incoming attack and Addison.
[02:49:17] Speaker A: Yeah, I think you split it between the two of you, you each take two harm here.
And you additionally with the method of falling in here, as you slip and kind of shove Addison, you also overbalance Conrad and he tips backwards into the chasm, which leaves all of you suddenly unaccosted.
[02:49:51] Speaker D: Can I try to catch him?
Like, grab his hand or. Is he sure?
Well, yeah. I don't want him to go back in the fucking chasm.
[02:50:02] Speaker F: Okay.
[02:50:03] Speaker D: We were bonding for a little bit.
[02:50:05] Speaker A: Acting, depression.
[02:50:08] Speaker D: Okay. One. I have resilience. So my.
What do you call it? My. My wounds always count as one less harm.
[02:50:18] Speaker A: Heck, yeah.
[02:50:19] Speaker D: So that's just like a heads up. I also heal faster. I always take an extra point of healing. But in terms of harm, I don't take two. I take one.
[02:50:27] Speaker C: Perfect.
[02:50:27] Speaker A: Do you have armor?
[02:50:28] Speaker D: I do have armor, yes.
[02:50:30] Speaker A: So you probably take none then.
[02:50:31] Speaker D: I take none. Ha.
[02:50:32] Speaker A: This is not.
[02:50:33] Speaker D: Never mind.
[02:50:33] Speaker A: I'm so just a straight up pickaxe.
[02:50:36] Speaker D: I'm just a bunk. That's it.
[02:50:37] Speaker A: I'm just.
[02:50:37] Speaker D: That's it. I just bonk.
[02:50:39] Speaker A: You just get a little head bonk when you hit the ground, but a little head bonk.
[02:50:41] Speaker D: No, no, no. Structural damage to my body.
You said act under pressure.
[02:50:48] Speaker C: Yeah.
[02:50:48] Speaker D: Okay.
[02:50:49] Speaker A: It's gonna be cool.
[02:50:50] Speaker D: Yep.
That's my best set.
[02:50:54] Speaker C: Nice.
[02:50:58] Speaker D: Nine.
[02:51:00] Speaker A: Nine You.
I'm going to give you a worse outcome. Hard choice or price to.
The price to pay is you switch places with him. You can pull him back, but you're gonna go in.
Hard choice, I should say.
Or you can stay where you are and let him fall.
But he'll remember if he ever gets out of this.
[02:51:39] Speaker D: It's too early. Let's trade places.
[02:51:44] Speaker A: Okay.
Yeah. You grab him and pull him in, and the ground underneath your foot just gives way and you slide right under him as he is, like, hoisted back up into the. The main space.
Let's go to the bottom of the chasm.
Because there's a lot happening down here.
As a chasm, it's uncertain how deep it is. It's not a fall so much as, like a tumble slide situation. It's unpleasant. It grates, it tears up your skin.
You roll quite a lot, but you do end up at a stopping point. It is pitch black down here except for a little negative point that isn't darkness and it isn't light.
And you know, you're not alone down here, Ben. You're about to be even less alone.
But at the moment, it's just you and him.
And as you come to a halt, he.
He speaks, and it sounds like like sparks. And it sounds like rock gravel and it feels like your chest is filling up with dirt.
And he says the profits must increase.
The work cannot stop.
[02:53:19] Speaker F: And what the fuck are you?
[02:53:23] Speaker A: I'm the foreman
[02:53:27] Speaker F: and I would like to.
I want to read a bad situation, but I specifically want to check if this thing is like my prey that I am hunting.
[02:53:40] Speaker A: Ah, interesting. Yeah, go ahead and roll plus sharp.
Unless you have a specific playbook move, in which case I got a 10. 10. You get three.
I'll tell you for free that this is not like the prayer hunting.
It's adjacent to the prey you're hunting. There is a commonality between your prey and this.
[02:54:06] Speaker F: Now question for you that I'm cool. I'm fine using this as one of my questions because I don't have a lot of questions. Does that mean I get a. Does that mean I get it's. Does that mean I'm strong against this thing?
Like, do I get my bonuses?
Um,
[02:54:23] Speaker A: yes. I'll let you have that.
[02:54:24] Speaker F: Amazing.
I think Ben hears that this creature says, I'm the foreman. And he begins rolling up his sleeves and taking off his hat to kind of place in next to his coffin.
And he takes a deep breath in and smells something similar that he doesn't quite understand. And he gets a really like wicked smile on his face.
Well, that's good, buddy. And he uncorks the potion that he gets from Mion, downs it and slaps puts the coffin down face up. So even though it's basically half his body height, it's like facing the foreman and he falls unconscious.
[02:55:13] Speaker A: Do you want to ask your other two questions before you do?
[02:55:17] Speaker F: Yeah, sure.
God. Which one is this?
[02:55:20] Speaker A: Bad situation. The best way in, best way out. Dangers you haven't noticed. Biggest threat most vulnerable to you. And best way to protect the victims.
[02:55:27] Speaker F: Let's say dangers that I haven't noticed and best way to protect the victims just because me knowing that fucking Addison's gonna drop down here.
[02:55:36] Speaker A: Yeah. Dangers you haven't noticed is there are.
There is a line of miners who are working in this non existent vein and they all turn and they look at you and they have the same expression on their face as Conrad did, which is to say wild terror but no apparent control.
[02:55:55] Speaker F: These are like real human miners.
[02:55:58] Speaker A: Real human miners? Yeah.
[02:55:59] Speaker F: That's so funny. In a bad way. Cool. Oh well, I guess my question also counts for them. What's the best way to protect the victim systems?
[02:56:06] Speaker A: Deal with the one holding the strings.
[02:56:09] Speaker F: Easy. That's exactly what he was gonna do.
And Addison can probably see this. This might be the thing that Addison sees as, like, we drop down.
[02:56:19] Speaker A: Yeah, I'm dropping a flashlight after you so we can see what's happening here.
I lied.
[02:56:24] Speaker B: It's not dark anymore.
[02:56:25] Speaker A: There's a flashlight.
[02:56:26] Speaker D: I got. It's okay. It's okay.
[02:56:28] Speaker C: Phone.
[02:56:28] Speaker A: Phones, baby.
[02:56:29] Speaker D: We just. We just. We just turn on the phone flash and, like, put it in, like, a pocket or something. Hold it.
[02:56:35] Speaker A: One of the miners has a headlamp on. It's fine. There's light.
[02:56:39] Speaker D: There's so much. So much shit we can do. We just put the headlight on us too. Like, it's. We're good. We're good.
[02:56:45] Speaker F: So as Ben's body, you see Ben drink a potion, fall unconscious. And then you hear a creaking of wood and a heartbeat.
And a very long arm comes out of the. The coffin, like, way longer than it should fit inside of the coffin while this beating heart is happening. And then another one and another one and shaped in a similar, like, negative shadow. As the foreman almost a about, like, we'll say, like, what's a number? Like, 12 foot tall creature comes out of the coffin, and its heart is beating. And Ben is on the ground sleeping like a baby.
And I want to fight this thing. I want to. I want to kick its ass or use magic. I would like to use magic.
[02:57:37] Speaker A: All right, let's use magic. What are you trying to accomplish with your magic? I assume harm, but I don't know, maybe something else.
[02:57:44] Speaker F: I think I want to consume this thing.
[02:57:46] Speaker A: All right, let's go then.
[02:57:49] Speaker D: Roll.
[02:57:50] Speaker A: Plus. Weird.
[02:57:53] Speaker F: That is five plus four plus two. I can't do math, but it's more than 10.
[02:57:58] Speaker A: That's more than 10 for sure. It's gonna work without issue.
I. It's.
You're. What? What part of it do you consume first?
[02:58:11] Speaker F: I think I want to consume its greed. That part of it that keeps talking about profit's gotta go, profit's gotta go. And more most likely, that's the part that's probably like, controlling the miners.
So I think the creature that is Ben walks on all fours, probably the front and the last. It's kind of like changing form as it's walking. And Addison, you see opening its mouth wider than where honestly, it didn't have a mouth hole, but it begins to open the side all the way down, down to its chest and opens its body like a mouth and chomps down on the foreman's head first.
[02:58:52] Speaker A: Yes. You consume the greed. And as you do, you realize the greed is it's flavored differently than greed usually is. Greed is usually fairly straightforward. It has a taste and you know it well.
This one is intertwined with something deeper. It feels like love.
That's a lot harder to eat.
[02:59:21] Speaker F: That is a hard thing to swallow for Ben.
[02:59:25] Speaker A: Let's.
Let's pop back up to the top. Before we jump into Addison, I think Conrad is just lying on the ground, inert, like, eyes wide open, very clearly conscious and awake, just not moving.
[02:59:48] Speaker B: What is the state of everyone at the moment? I'm on my knees, I'm crying,
[02:59:56] Speaker E: little scuffed up and pulling myself up off the ground. But, you know,
[03:00:03] Speaker C: I have collapsed to the ground, I think, holding a wound. I am unstable.
[03:00:10] Speaker A: Going well. Going well up here.
[03:00:17] Speaker B: Oh, God.
Just wiping her nose and face, attempting to pull herself together.
She sees she's angry before she is processing that someone is bleeding out, I think. So she's gonna go over to Conrad and just like, grab him by the collar and just like, in like sort of shaking him. What the fuck was that?
[03:00:50] Speaker A: There is a pause where he is just staring at you in terror and is not reacting in any way. And then there's like a snap.
You wouldn't know this, but it corresponds with the moment the greed gets eaten.
And Conrad gains not full control of his body, but a portion comes back and he says, it's my old foreman.
It's my old foreman. He's still alive. He's still here.
[03:01:21] Speaker C: Please help me.
[03:01:22] Speaker A: I'm so sorry.
[03:01:29] Speaker E: Okay.
People are hurt. People are injured. We should get the people who are injured out of.
[03:01:47] Speaker B: I'm not leaving without Ben.
[03:01:50] Speaker A: I don't.
[03:01:51] Speaker E: I don't know how we would get him out of the gestures at the chasm unless you some really long rope.
[03:02:00] Speaker B: Can we see how deep it is now that it's not. It's more of like that tumble rather than like a whole drop.
[03:02:08] Speaker A: Yeah. You can see it's still quite a long ways down there. And there's like some light and, like a lot of shadows moving around, so you can tell there is movement down there. Which hopefully implies that Ben and Addison both made it to the bottom relatively safely.
But it is still a long way down.
Margaret would probably die if Margaret tried to go down there.
[03:02:28] Speaker B: Yes. Right.
[03:02:29] Speaker E: I break a hip. Yeah.
[03:02:31] Speaker A: Margaret's gonna break a hip.
[03:02:32] Speaker B: Throw Conrad to the side, and then I go over to Lacy and start grabbing you.
You can do something too.
[03:02:42] Speaker E: I have some medical knowledge. I don't know first aid.
[03:02:50] Speaker B: Why can't you remember?
[03:02:53] Speaker E: Remember what?
[03:02:57] Speaker B: There is someone with you at all times.
[03:03:04] Speaker E: No, there isn't.
[03:03:07] Speaker A: Lacy.
A. A phrase comes to mind here.
It's like a memory, kind of. But you have no.
There's nowhere to slot it in. You just know it.
And you know that there are old
[03:03:31] Speaker F: rights
[03:03:33] Speaker A: here on the mine, and they prevent neighbors from coming in.
And that feels like an explanation to you, but you don't know why.
[03:03:51] Speaker F: And
[03:03:55] Speaker E: I say.
Very confused as to why I even know these things. I say the neighbors can't come in the mine.
[03:04:13] Speaker B: Okay.
[03:04:17] Speaker E: Don't know why. I know that.
[03:04:26] Speaker B: We're gonna do something like a mindfulness project. Okay, Lacy, you are gonna do magic.
You are gonna do alchemy. Okay. Ready?
Sure.
[03:04:44] Speaker E: You know anything? It's a weird enough day,
[03:04:49] Speaker B: and I think Mion will sort of posit to you. One of us needs to make some form of ladder. Rope, something. Rope ladder, even. Or fix the fucking old lady that's dying.
[03:05:07] Speaker E: Um.
I can try and heal.
I. I don't adore.
[03:05:17] Speaker B: Okay, great.
And then she just fully pushes you over to Margaret. She didn't want to deal with Margaret.
And I would like to create again through whatever bits of, like, metal that are still. That still maintain themselves in this unused shaft or even bits of cloth or something. Just create some weird, ungodly, alchemical, fused rope, metal ladder to get us down there safely.
[03:05:54] Speaker A: Yeah.
Use magic.
[03:05:59] Speaker B: Yes.
[03:05:59] Speaker A: Unless you want to draw for it.
[03:06:02] Speaker B: Oh, I'll draw for it.
[03:06:05] Speaker C: Okay.
[03:06:06] Speaker A: Do you want to roll or you want me to?
[03:06:08] Speaker B: I will.
[03:06:09] Speaker A: Okay.
Wheel.
[03:06:17] Speaker C: Wield.
[03:06:17] Speaker A: Wield, wield.
[03:06:19] Speaker B: The lover with back knee. I don't know what it said. It falls off.
Yeah, it falls off. Okay. Cool.
[03:06:27] Speaker A: What a. What a one to roll. Actually, in this moment.
[03:06:31] Speaker C: Incredible.
[03:06:31] Speaker D: It's the fact that you said the
[03:06:32] Speaker A: lover was with back knee, and now
[03:06:34] Speaker D: that's all I'm picturing going to be. Lacy or the boyfriend. One of y' all got back knee.
[03:06:39] Speaker A: This is the card of temptation, desire, longing. It is also the card of willpower, attachment, and domination.
It is a lover with a smile, A lover with sharp teeth. A lover who, you know, could always choose you to eat. But a lover all the same.
The. To me, you get your ladder. And then some.
[03:07:05] Speaker D: Okay.
[03:07:06] Speaker A: In fact, unless you have a better idea, I'd like to propose to you that you can restore a memory.
A small one.
[03:07:16] Speaker C: Yes.
[03:07:16] Speaker B: Yes.
I'm desperate for Lacy to understand anything. I think because I came here and I have been so alone in memories.
[03:07:28] Speaker A: Mm.
[03:07:30] Speaker B: I want. I need Lacy to understand.
[03:07:33] Speaker A: What small piece do you give back to her?
And how do you restore It.
[03:07:48] Speaker B: There was romance between Lacy and Mion before, and it was awful and corrupt, and for ulterior motive, that isn't what I specifically want to restore right now, but I.
I think there's a gesture that Mion does with multiple lovers, and it's unfortunately just like, you know, a flirtatious move that carries across.
And as I have successfully created this ladder, this sort of creation, I sort of go to Lacy, I go to your back, and I hug you from behind in exhaustion, crying and everything,
[03:08:47] Speaker A: and
[03:08:47] Speaker B: I just whisper to you, please remember, and I want to give you back his name in your memory.
[03:09:01] Speaker A: What is his name? Lacy
[03:09:05] Speaker E: Galleran.
[03:09:09] Speaker A: And your ladder? Totally. You get the ladder too easy.
Addison.
Deep in the depths. Wait, sorry. Hold on real fast. Margaret, are you doing anything besides dying?
You can choose to do things. You don't have to die here.
[03:09:27] Speaker C: I mean, I think.
[03:09:29] Speaker E: Oh, I. I will attempt at some point to do. To heal you. So, you know, if that helps.
[03:09:38] Speaker C: I think that originally she was going.
She was, you know, clutching the wound, took off her outer sweater to sort of try and say, stop the bleeding.
But that's wasteful, isn't it? If she's bleeding out anyway. And I think she will attempt to.
To pull.
To re. Establish whatever ritual was here before.
[03:10:08] Speaker E: Right.
[03:10:09] Speaker A: The ceiling.
Excellent. Do you have a specific playbook move for this, or are you trying to use magic?
[03:10:16] Speaker C: I do not have a specific playbook for this. I am trying to use magic.
[03:10:20] Speaker A: Okay, I'm gonna have you roll magic, but keep the result to yourself for a hot minute. We're going to jump in with Addison, and then we're going to come back to you.
What are you up to? Benjamin's other version is eating the. The void. Foreman, there are other people down here that you do know. You straight up know. These are your neighbors. These are your friends. They are down here and they are working and they look terrified.
This is not up to OSHA standard here. This is a chasm.
[03:10:57] Speaker D: I look at all of this. I was looking at all of that. I was in shock for a little while because I just went down McDonald's. Worst slide in this playhouse. Okay, all. All of that being said, it's okay. So before. Before the greed was eaten, they were, like, working, working. They were like sort of like comrade, where it's like maybe conscious but no control. And now they kind of have some control back. I can tell them that much.
[03:11:29] Speaker A: Yeah, mostly it seems to be either of a single limb or some of them have voices and they're, like, calling out for help.
But that's about the extent of it. Okay.
[03:11:39] Speaker D: Okay. Now another question.
So it was described. The issue of. Of that is. I don't know if, like, that. Like, description is something that Addison would have known or would have understood specifically, you know, eating of the greed. But then love is more. Yeah.
[03:11:58] Speaker A: Yeah.
[03:11:58] Speaker D: So do I understand that or is it just, oh, you're eating it and it's working.
[03:12:07] Speaker A: It is eating and it's working.
[03:12:09] Speaker D: Eating. It is working. Okay. Okay.
[03:12:10] Speaker A: Okay.
You also have the strongest feeling that your vision from this morning is on the cusp of happening.
[03:12:19] Speaker D: On the cusp of happening.
Could you please remind me the details of my vision?
[03:12:26] Speaker A: Something pulled out your heart. Your heart was made of coal. The coal turned into a familiar figure, and then it crumbled into dust.
[03:12:31] Speaker D: Do I remember the figure at all, or does the figure just feel familiar?
[03:12:35] Speaker A: Your Foreman.
[03:12:37] Speaker D: My Foreman.
[03:12:39] Speaker A: Not the. Not the. The scary Foreman.
[03:12:42] Speaker D: Not the scary Foreman. If I look at the scary Foreman, does it look like my Foreman? No, no. This is just like a. This is just a full fucking. Its own separate entity here.
[03:12:52] Speaker A: I'll connect the dots for you here. Because it's late and it's easy. Dots to connect. Is that your Foreman is also a minor. This guy seems to be grabbing explicitly minors.
[03:13:04] Speaker D: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
[03:13:05] Speaker A: I was like, okay, Foreman is probably next on the list.
[03:13:07] Speaker D: Next. That's what I was thinking. That's what I just wanted to double check. I was like, wait a minute. Wait a minute.
[03:13:11] Speaker C: No.
[03:13:11] Speaker A: Yeah, I'll spell it out. No problem.
[03:13:13] Speaker D: Thank you. Thank you. I just. I didn't want to overthink it so I can actually do what I want to do kind of with no fear now.
[03:13:20] Speaker A: Great.
[03:13:20] Speaker D: I'm going to help Babadook eat this thing.
[03:13:25] Speaker C: Okay. For.
[03:13:26] Speaker D: So I want to kick some ass. I have flowery descriptions on how I'm going to help kick ass. But I would like to roll first, if I may. Kick.
[03:13:36] Speaker A: Yes, please do.
[03:13:38] Speaker D: Well, actually, is. This is another.
[03:13:40] Speaker A: This.
[03:13:40] Speaker D: This might change a little bit. Kick some ass or help out. Because in theory, I just said I want to help Benjamin to continue to eat. So maybe. Maybe help out is what I'm actually doing. But I can describe it like I'm kicking ass.
[03:13:56] Speaker A: Sure. Yeah, I'd allow that.
[03:13:58] Speaker D: Okay, dope, let's go.
That's good. That's.
One second.
[03:14:08] Speaker A: That's cool.
[03:14:09] Speaker D: Eleven.
[03:14:10] Speaker A: Yeah. So you give a plus one to Benjamin on Benjamin's next attempt to chomp, chomp. How do you. What does it look like? What is. What is. Are you just whacking with your.
Your magic.
[03:14:23] Speaker D: I got. I got something.
[03:14:25] Speaker B: Yeah.
[03:14:26] Speaker D: Okay. I.
I'm putting things together. I. I'm connecting the dots. And then someone's gonna tell me I've got nothing. But, like, I'm connecting the dots and I. Maybe I. I see, like it. No, my vision showed me my heart. I am gonna take that very literally and look for roughly where this thing's heart is on its weird body. And then I grab my pickaxe, which is with me, my little magical pickaxe, and I kind of pull. Like I'm winding up to swing. And as that happens, it gets. The handle gets longer and longer and longer. It bends in weird ways because there's bone in here.
And then the actual blade of the pickaxe also grows, grows, grows. And now it's really cool, unnecessarily large scythe. And I am just going to swing on it with hope, with the idea that I'm trying to maybe cut it in half, but maybe instead it gets stuck to exactly where the heart is and I'm like, piercing it and maybe bringing an opening for.
For Benjamin slash Babadook slash Jackal baby Hyde. I don't know. I'm here for it anyways.
God. And. And I say.
And I say.
This is hot.
[03:16:13] Speaker A: Benjamin.
[03:16:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[03:16:16] Speaker A: What would you like to eat?
[03:16:18] Speaker F: I wanna.
I wanna, like. I basically want to just.
You mean, like, metaphorically or physically? Because I want to, like, probably eat the whole thing. Like, I wanna. Yeah. Defties. Do you want me to use magic?
That's what I use. Instead of kicking. It's fine.
[03:16:33] Speaker A: Yeah. Yes. Yes. Then in that case, yes, use magic while. Oh, go ahead.
[03:16:39] Speaker F: No. 10.
[03:16:39] Speaker A: No.
[03:16:40] Speaker F: Plus the one from Addison's Hobo 11.
[03:16:43] Speaker A: Margaret, what did you get?
[03:16:47] Speaker C: I got a 10.
[03:16:48] Speaker A: You also got a 10.
Benjamin. What?
You were just trying to consume what is left of this. This person thing.
[03:16:57] Speaker F: Yeah. I think with Addison, like, stabbing this thing in the heart and exposing it, I think Ben gets the realization that, like, oh, that's the part that I need to consume. So more hands come out of Ben's spindly negative body and starts ripping this thing apart like it's a gift being opened as Addison exposes the heart. And then last chomp.
[03:17:20] Speaker A: As you are controlling, consuming it, you feel this Foreman trying to push out of your body and just rip you open from the inside.
[03:17:33] Speaker B: However.
[03:17:34] Speaker A: Margaret, what magic were you doing? Ow. Sorry, I'm being crawled on by a cat.
Yeah.
[03:17:44] Speaker C: Margaret, these are my mind. These are my family's minds.
And it was on my family's name that the tunnels were sealed once. And it is with that name and that blood that I will seal them again.
And I think that she fully just drags a hand covered in the blood from her wound against the walls, against the floors of the mines where she's sitting and tells them, commands them, my name is Margaret Turkel.
These minds are mine.
[03:18:23] Speaker A: There is a scream that ricochets through your body, Benjamin, as you eat this heart.
It is not a scream of pain or anguish.
It is the scream of someone ecstatic as you hear Margaret's name echo down the chasm.
And then all is silent and the miners break free of the hold.
A ladder is magically brought down by Mion and you are all able to pack yourselves up and make your way back out of the mine.
And as you do, Margaret, you are approached by a well dressed man in a crisp suit and a hat with a long wool coat on over top.
And he says, Ms. Terkel, and hands you a crisp business card that reads Vernon Cudgel, Estate attorney.
I'd like to meet with you to discuss your holdings on behalf of my employer. There's a few peculiarities that need to be dealt with before we can finalize anything unusual. Local laws I would write. Let's meet soon, say Thursday.
[03:19:52] Speaker C: Dirty. Exhausted, Margaret just nods and says, my people will call yours.
[03:20:02] Speaker A: He nods politely and walks away. And it is only after you lose sight of him that you realize you cannot remember his face.
Well, the story draws close. Now children, we thank you for your ears, but we'll be circling back soon, so hold on to those fears. The neighbors are waiting for a liar yet unstrung to strike up the discord of the rotting tongue.
Where do we find you friends?
[03:20:34] Speaker D: Zo.
[03:20:35] Speaker F: Hi everyone, I'm Zoe. You can find me everywhere that I want to be found at Radical Zo. Which isn't a lot of places so don't go looking.
That's me. I played Ben.
[03:20:49] Speaker B: Hello everyone. I am Josephine. Ask your dog friend. I have been me on Saw.
You can find me co producing over at Bad House rpg.
Honestly listen back to goblins and gay stuff. You'll find me somewhere and lots of other places. You can find me on Blue sky and Twitter at your dog friend. That's me.
[03:21:13] Speaker E: Hi, I'm Aubrey. You can find me everywhere on the Internet at the Madqueen.
I'm the co producer of Goblets and gays. I own 33% of it.
You can find me everywhere over here. You can also find me as the technical director over at Queen's Court games. I've got some cool stuff going on over there, so check me out. Anything else? Just hit up any of my links and it'll show you if you think I'm working on.
[03:21:39] Speaker D: Hey y'.
[03:21:39] Speaker C: All. I'm Alyssa. I played Margaret. You can find me on Bluesky at a disasterqueer. And you can find my games on Itch IO under the same name except for ust, which is my two player ttrpg about oblivious lesbians which can be physically had by you through one exp.
And I own 16.5 of goblets in gays is marital property.
[03:22:07] Speaker A: I guess.
[03:22:08] Speaker C: I don't know. That seems right.
[03:22:15] Speaker D: Hello, I'm Aki Orino. I've been Addison.
Totally cool mindchild. Yeah, everything's normal and dandy. You can find me all. All over the Internet. Some variation by Akinomi art.
Especially in Blue Sky. I'm chilling on Blue sky the most right now. I own 33% of goblets and Gays and I'm looking to Buy More. And by Buy More I mean I'm going to oust someone. I'm going to. I'm going to do. I'm going to pull a Margaret and usurp for a little bit.
The walls of G and G are mine.
That's how I feel about it.
You find me other places such as Wednesdays every Wednesdays over at the Mandy's channel, we're playing a necromancer. Alyssa's also there.
I'm also bugging around on Queen's Court now because eventually I'm just gonna own anything that has three syllables in it or for an acronym or something.
I'm also doing things. I'm a regular@Magic RPG.
I don't think. I don't think Magical Girl is happening right now. So you might as well just look over on YouTube and see all the that I've done.
Speaking of YouTube, also on the Mandy's YouTube Curse of Sapphics. That is a fem strahd Curse of Strahd. Retelling slash with system straight swap over to Pathfinder 2e and Josephine's on that. You can go check our little backlog over there. All of it's on YouTube because Twitch won't let you archive blogs, any vlogs anymore and stuff. So you might as well just invest in YouTube at this point because we live in hell.
That's me.
[03:24:09] Speaker A: And I have been your keeper of mysteries. So you can call me Ferris now and you can find me wherever you know to look, take Care now.
We did it.
So excited. Sorry that went so long.
Yeah, you're good. I had a lot to squeeze into the first episode also.
[03:24:34] Speaker D: I agree. I think marital property wise, it has to be split with Dusty's percentage because that's the only way this is fair.
[03:24:42] Speaker A: Due to the lateness of the hour, do we want to do line. Not lines, stars and wishes verbally, or do we want to do them written out and just done, like, tomorrow?
[03:24:53] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm fine with, like, asynchronous written out.
[03:24:56] Speaker D: Yeah. Yeah, that sounds good. Should we do the xp, though?
[03:24:59] Speaker A: I feel like we should do the xp though.
I even put it on my notes and I just looked at that and went, that looks like not important.
Did we conclude the current mystery?
Yes.
[03:25:12] Speaker E: Yes.
[03:25:13] Speaker A: You get a. You get a point for that. Did we save someone from certain death or worse?
[03:25:18] Speaker E: Yes.
[03:25:19] Speaker A: Did we learn something new and important about the world?
Did we learn something new and important about one of the hunters?
[03:25:27] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We literally got a memory bag.
[03:25:30] Speaker A: So you get two experience points for. For playing that game.
[03:25:38] Speaker D: Nice.
[03:25:38] Speaker C: One more and I level reminder.
[03:25:42] Speaker A: If you roll. If you rolled. If you drew a card, you got experience.
If you failed a roll, you got experience.
[03:25:49] Speaker E: Yep, same. I just need one more. One more xp.
[03:25:51] Speaker D: I need two. I need two more. I didn't get to draw any cards.
[03:25:55] Speaker F: I drew one card. Did I fail? I don't think I failed.
[03:25:57] Speaker D: How do we draw cards? Can I force myself to draw cards?
[03:26:01] Speaker A: You can just ask. You can say, I.
[03:26:02] Speaker E: You can draw a card.
[03:26:03] Speaker A: Instead of rolling, draw a card.
[03:26:05] Speaker E: So.
[03:26:05] Speaker D: Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
[03:26:07] Speaker A: Okay, good.
[03:26:08] Speaker D: I might do that.
[03:26:08] Speaker A: When the moment feels right, I tend to offer it. If I'm like, yeah, this feels like a good time to. To pull the omens into it. Otherwise I'm like, no, let's use the mechanics of the game we're playing.
[03:26:19] Speaker B: I cannot believe we got the lovers card in that perfect match moment.
[03:26:22] Speaker E: Really?
Really.
[03:26:24] Speaker B: What.
[03:26:24] Speaker A: What a.
[03:26:25] Speaker D: The mind's card also.
[03:26:27] Speaker B: The minds was crazy.
That was crazy.
Lovely.
[03:26:32] Speaker A: I love it. I love it when a plan comes together.
You solved the. You solved the mystery.
[03:26:40] Speaker F: Madison knows my very secret.
[03:26:43] Speaker D: I do. And you also know my secret now. Well, not entirely my secret. You just know. You just know that one little thing
[03:26:50] Speaker A: over there, which is.
[03:26:52] Speaker F: I don't even remember exactly.
[03:26:54] Speaker D: Exactly. You didn't learn.
[03:26:56] Speaker F: Did you have a pickaxe that you can move?
[03:26:58] Speaker D: That I can. That I can move. And maybe change his shape a little bit, but it's just a pickaxe.
It's a dirty Looking pickaxe too.
[03:27:08] Speaker F: Let me eat. Shout out to Ben. Everyone's favorite Borbo. My favorite part.
[03:27:13] Speaker D: I thought Ben was gonna be worse.
I don't know why.
[03:27:16] Speaker B: No, Ben is so normal.
[03:27:18] Speaker A: I thought that like.
[03:27:19] Speaker D: Like where's derogatory, you know, I mean,
[03:27:22] Speaker F: he opened up being used as a table in a stream that he's not getting paid for.
[03:27:27] Speaker A: And that's different.
[03:27:28] Speaker D: That's different.
[03:27:29] Speaker A: We don't know that that was free.
[03:27:30] Speaker D: I. I thought it was gonna be like worse worse or something like that.
[03:27:33] Speaker A: You didn't get tipped.
[03:27:35] Speaker F: His tip was information, which also was the goal.
[03:27:39] Speaker E: His tip was something else.
[03:27:40] Speaker A: Information. Did you get. Cuz I.
[03:27:42] Speaker B: Something else?
[03:27:43] Speaker F: I don't know.
[03:27:43] Speaker D: Shrug the penis size of Everybody within a 40 mile radius.
[03:27:47] Speaker A: I wasn't sure. I. I was. I was on a mission, so I didn't think.
[03:27:51] Speaker F: No, you're fine. Ben just kind of goes around and does stuff for people in the hopes that he gets like information about. That's going on in husk.
[03:27:59] Speaker A: Yeah, everything is going on in husk all the time.
[03:28:03] Speaker D: I do think Mion is more horrible than Margaret right now. We. Which I didn't think I'd see coming. Like, I knew you guys would be like, equally as rancid, but I was like, oh, the rancicity is a little bit much.
[03:28:13] Speaker B: The audience doesn't even know Mion and Addison's relationship to each other. So I just. The first thing I called you was an idiot.
[03:28:20] Speaker D: Yeah, it was so funny. I was like, damn, Lacy, what'd you do? And the answer is. Lacy doesn't know.
[03:28:26] Speaker E: Lacy doesn't know anything.
I forgot everything about him. But unfortunately he a neighbor and connected to so many things. So it's just like y.
[03:28:39] Speaker D: This was my. This was the car. My Disney card is the one that
[03:28:43] Speaker A: I use as the prop, by the way. Nice.
[03:28:46] Speaker D: I was literally going to show up Tinkerbell. I was like, wait a minute. Let's just flip it real quick.
[03:28:50] Speaker F: Oh my God. I remembered that I tried to kill your. Your boy. So I. That means that I also know G.
[03:28:56] Speaker D: I think we all know him. Except for. For.
[03:28:59] Speaker A: Except for the old lady, Margaret.
[03:29:01] Speaker F: Margaret doesn't know. That's fair.
[03:29:04] Speaker A: Only the girlfriend doesn't know.
[03:29:05] Speaker F: That's.
[03:29:06] Speaker D: I'm surprised I didn't die yet. I mean, the day. The day is still there.
[03:29:09] Speaker A: The day is just. People kept trying to protect you. Dang it.
[03:29:13] Speaker D: Well, yeah, I know, but I was just waiting for you to be like, okay, before the mystery is done, everybody else goes up. But like.
[03:29:20] Speaker B: And then
[03:29:24] Speaker D: Climbing the ladder. The ladder breaks and Addison falls to her death. Like, I was ready for something like that. Because that's basically how she dies.
[03:29:30] Speaker F: I think you should have.
[03:29:31] Speaker A: No, I had a torment. Alyssa first.
That'll be time for you.
[03:29:36] Speaker F: Let Ben eat you. It's okay. That could have been the problem that you.
[03:29:39] Speaker D: Jesus Christ. Yeah, I was like. I was about to be like, yeah, Ben could have eaten me by mistake. I. I want to know what happens after I die now and the next day happens. Because I am under the assumption that up until session one, episode one, y', all, like, would it if I, like, died in front of you? Totally wouldn't remember it. It's very South Park Kenny style, where it's like, next day, I'm here, and you're like, oh, what's up, Addie?
[03:30:06] Speaker F: But now things are different.
[03:30:07] Speaker D: Yeah, but now things are different. So I don't know if that's gonna happen or not.
[03:30:10] Speaker F: Show back up after getting eaten.
[03:30:14] Speaker D: Like, full on full. Like, maybe, maybe.
Maybe I get, like, for example, like, shot in the head. And you guys are, like, freaking out. And then the next day happens and I'm like, all right. Hi, guys. What's up? And you're like, oh.
And I'm like, you remember.
[03:30:27] Speaker A: You remember that?
[03:30:29] Speaker D: Was the hole still there? No, it's not. Damn, y'.
[03:30:33] Speaker C: All.
[03:30:33] Speaker A: That's new.
[03:30:34] Speaker D: That's suspicious.
[03:30:37] Speaker B: Ferris. I'm gonna go and eat dinner. But just a note for Ferris. I changed one player move that we didn't see yet, so.
[03:30:45] Speaker A: Okay.
[03:30:46] Speaker B: Worked out.
Goodbye. I'm hilarious
[03:30:52] Speaker E: in the recording.
